View Full Version : Playbox - Linux based gaming distro. Can we include CoR?

Story so far, I'm rolling out a debian-based distro for gaming. The default WM will be Openbox, as that has the least problems when it comes to Linux games these days thanks to its non-intrusive, minimal desktop. The interface and key bindings are customised for a more pleasurable experience, of course!
If you're running nVidia, it will ask if you'd like to install the nvidia related drivers and perform all that for you. Multiarch libraries will be pre-installed (32bit libs) even though it will be 64bit based, as that's the only test machine I have. Steam, PlayOnLinux pre-installed also.
The result: a lean, mean, gaming machine.. err distro.

My question to NGD is, may I pre-load CoR into this distribution? It will give Linux users the chance to install their system and run CoR straight away (and also great for free marketing ;-D)

If anyone has any other features they'd like to see, if you're interested, please let me know.

Cheers!

disclaimer: I'm in no way involved with NGD except for playing regnum.

My guess would be to contact NGD, or contacting Adrian (http://www.championsofregnum.com/forum/member.php?u=231110) who actually does have something to do with NGD.

Good luck!

You should be aware that the activation code stuff for Linux is currently broken so many users won't be able to play Regnum from a fresh Linux installation: http://www.championsofregnum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=100997
As NGD doesn't seem to fix this soon you will ahve to include a workaround for that (maybe an own GTK theme just to start Regnum)

Bloat (aka pre-loading RO) will put people off. Just my humble opinion of course.

I wish you all the best but I don't see people changing their distro of choice for something else.

Cheers. The local gaming cafe has it running on two of their Linux machines, and I know of 5 people using it so far (without CoR pre-loaded). I showed a few Spanish Minecraft players with it running and got them converted also.

Doesn't sound like a lot, but if I can get just a few people happily gaming on Linux, then I'm happy!
