View Full Version : Sometimes I feel major lags

Since about several days ago I begun to feel major lags when there are only about 100-200 players in the game (not in rush hours).
I feel those lags for several minutes and then everything goes to normal and after several more minutes the lags are back
I disabled the anti alising and nothing changed.
why is it happening and how could I fix it ?
is it a graphic problem or a server problem ?

We have four 1800 x 768 custom DSL lines here for our hosting company. I think most lag is caused from the game engine never being meant for a MMORPG.

Stop being agressive, you can say thing in a different and more kind way, those are words of an angry person, and nobody thinks clear during anger, I personally haven't got those lag problems, even yesterday that server reached 570 users, the only time I had them was when the server crashed, buet that happened only one time and then continued working good, please be a little objective when you express your mind...

He said that the game's engine was not ever designed for a MMORPG, maybe I misunderstood, but this argument is a little heavy...

I don't think the game engine was. How many years have you spent in game development? I have 13.
Anger? You jest right?
Why would I be angry at a game I don't play often and even then just for joy?
A guy in my employee right now brings up points that the engine was not a home brew (He is an ex Loki Games guy) so I will take his word for it for now. HE pointed out why it has lag I just agree with him.
Explain how a 7200x30732 line has LAG? I need to know this since my company is in Athens. Are you at home on a cable or ADSL line? If so good sir shut the hell up.
It's also not the client since I moved the game to our quad core Opteron.

ok, I got more info about the lags I'm having
I think it begun after the Linux+ATI update which supposed to make it all better.
and it did at first, but after I play 15 minutes the lags begin, major lags.
again, only if I play in safe mode all is good as it was.
I have ATI9800Pro video card and I run Linux.
recently after the game update I changed my anti-alising in my Linux to x4 so I could use it in regnum.
but even I turn off the anti-alising in-game (not in Linux) I still suffer from lags in normal mode.

lag can have many reasons:
1) FPS lag: you pc is too weak or your details settings too high.
check the fps with alt + i
2) connection lag: the servers bandwith is too small (unlikely)
your bandwith is too small (stop downloading porn in the background)
3) lag due to server hardware: When too many people are connected or the game engine isnt optimized and the server is just too busy to answer in time
max, in your case it sounds very much like your client is the reason. And i would look more into the network side. run a constant ping to some site and see if it changes when those lags occur and check ingame latency with alt + p

DSL? Bypass your in house wiring, find the box on the side of your house that connects your in house wiring to the telephone pole, the ones here have a customer side and a phone company only side, inside you'll usually find a standard looking phone jack connecting to the outside line and terminal for multiple other lines, if not then it's going to be quite a bit more difficult, but I'm only gonna cover the easy way. Unplug that jack and connect your DSL modem directly to that terminal, you won't have phone service while doing this unless you split off the line and reconnect the house line anf filter it from there, tho it'd work better if you spliced the lines directly. I don't tho cause I dismantle the setup when the phone company is in the area lol.
As you can see it's a bit suspicious... http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/7071/00001na1.jpg

And ndg said just the same many times... it's just true. And they even said they considered restarting the client from scratch if they have time and budget. And I don't read the slightest anger or aggressiveness in Athens first message.

I speak my mind as being someone who was in a small devel company. adrianpf has deemed me a user-devel so I should no longer speak in the fourms and only to NGD.
"And treat me with respect, as I did all the time..."
Kiddo respect is earned not given. Granted my Engrish is not the best but looks like you said that you always treat your persons with respect? That, is a good thing.
Magnet this guy does not bother with looking into the history of Regnum.

I noticed more lags in the last days too. My system and internet connection is fast enough for this. Using Windows XP (so not a linux only problem).
