Deawomanwalking is better known as twinkle. This evening we had a problem. She was falsely accused of using a speed cheat (if such thing does exist) to gain advantage in the war zone.

In actual fact the speed the game runs at is an absolute nightmare for her to play as she ends up not able to go into buildings nor go to certain parts of the realm due to the death by water.

An admin was following her around on Sunday last for a while and he could see this problem.

We have tried everything we can to resolve this problem in order for twinkle to play and enjoy her game but to no avail

AS FOR CHEATING....... we do not even agree with the xp booster you can pay for as you have not really earnt the xp you get.

For those of you who were present at the time of the screen shot please take the following advice...

I'm sorry you were accused of cheating like that, but from their perspective - they see someone moving ultra-fast when they themselves can't do it, people let emotions override reason, I would prolly accuse you of cheating too had you been in ignis, and I saw you moving fast. I was one of the players that said those things, as it can be seen in the screenshot...

First: When I told her "cheater!" it was a mock... then I just followed her to tell her: "you will be banned", just for a warning, not for accusing her. See, then I said "logoff", just for her not to be seen doing that, she may be banned. I didn't know she had this problem.

Second: Speed hack exists. It's a program that accelerates programs speeds, and some months ago, it has been used and exploited.

Third: I am truly sorry if you were disappointed by us, I just wanted to protect you and Alsius, for her not to be seen doing that. If other realms people saw this, they would make a thread accusing her and Alsius of being cheaters, and the rest, you know.

So, my apologies if you were haressed with this attitude, but it's a normal behaviour when something like this happens. I just wanted you to logoff not to be seen, sorry! :o

I have had this problem a few times, and it does not seem to be video card related, more of a comb of lag from the server as well as my connection. It did not make it unplayable but i have died a few times because of it. I would like to say sorry for the way you were treated by people that did not know what was going on. But be proud in the fact that you as a mage can out run everyone :D :metal: Any way anytime you want to play the guys a PERL welcome you and Inkster. We are mostly computer programmers so we understand how these "issues" can happen and might be able to debug it some more for the admins to fix. Sorry that you were treated this way in the Alsius Realm and hope you return to the game.

Did she try to increase the resolution? If the game runs so fast, it should make it slower to have a better resolution, and it's a waste right now... I don't know how anyone can play in 800x600; I play at 1680x1050 and it's still not enough :D.

What exactly is the problem? Insanely powerful CPU, like a C2D w/ 4Mb L2 cache OCed to around 3.5Ghz or more combined with a slow graphics card and a satalite internet line?

Cause thats a trifecta of things that can possibly mess things up. the CPU is an unlikely one not just cause it'd have to be a decently high end model that was then equiped with excelent cooling and OCed, but also cause I don't think I've seen any modern era games do like the old games do when run on more modern hardware, think like running the DOS verson of Megaman on a P4, it'll run at like 200x normal speed lol.

The video card, the most common cause of client side lag I've seen while asking around in game and in the forums, something as good as an nvidia 6600GT or faster is recomended no matter what the rest of your hardware may be.

Lastly, the bane of any FPS gamer, line lag, belive it or not, broadband satalite internet is slower then plain ole slow ass dialup. How and why you ask? Latency, do a ping to a site thats got great lines and you'll see how many milisecconds it takes for you to send a single packet of data to them and recive a reply. It doesn't matter that you have a 100Mbps bandwidth line when it takes forever to get that ping for every packet of data.

This is why I'd take a 1Mbps/1Mbps FTTH line over a 5/1 line over copper.

latency of the line is why if you play an fps game you will see someone with a high ping seem to teleport around. His position data is being processed much after yours so while you may have a perfect headshot set up on him if he moves he can be right on top of you by the time the server figures it out and sends your comp his current position for it to render it.

for those already posted. We have tried all the settings on resolution didn't work.

our connection is adsl, my computer is connected to the hub on wireless , twinkles is directly wired (we tried wireless)

Short of buying a new graphics card, there is nothing else we can do. personally we cannot see it worthwhile to buy a new card for just one game.

Speed cheats have been a problem in a number of MMORPG, including Regnum a few months ago, according to someone else's post. Of course when people see one person running around twice as fast as everyone else, they will assume you are cheating. You should not be so sensitive when people ask you to stop running super-fast.


AS FOR CHEATING....... we do not even agree with the xp booster you can pay for as you have not really earnt the xp you get.


Keep in mind that people that use XP boosters are the people who gave money to the developers of Regnum, supporting the game for everyone else. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the players who have contributed financially to NGD, so that everyone else can continue to play for free. Without those people that you call "cheaters" for paying for XP boosters, there would be no Regnum for you to play.

"poor Twinkle" arrived at Samal today and attacked a group of ours.
When her life went down she put on her fast boots and ran.

Call me heartless or whatever, but this is cheating!

To say it once again:
It doesnt matter if its an intentionally hack or a bug.

she worked hard on leveling with good faith that ngd would help her with this .

I'll call for a ban as well, thats the definition of cheating if she can move that fast and is using it toher advantage on other players, it's not the semi legal screwing around of ranged chars of standing on rocks to kill mobs which isn't really an exploit as you are allowed ot get onto rocks, hell, you see ppl clibing all kinds of things, and I've been ambushed by ppl hiding in rocks, this is why I prposly try to avoid certain places that I know or just look like the kind of place someone could be hiding in.

She should not be banned right away only because of this incident.
That would be overkill.

But she should know that this behaviour is not acceptable.
I am touchy when it comes to abusing bugs or cheating in multiplayer games.

as far as having an unfair advantage id love to see any one of you control twinkle ... i have trouble going up stairs through doors i get stuck all over the place also get telleported around amongst some of the probs most i have learned to deal with.
as for speed i have run from the other realm one time and that was when id first gone to wz i panicked first time id seen enemy i apologizes for that .and that was the only time i have done that , i realized that i would upset peeps by doing that so haven't scince.

She was not cheating, it was actually a problem within the software on the server side. After a lot of time and effort from ngd studios the speed problem will be resolved on the next update. as it is already solved on the experimental server

How was it server side Inkster? Because it works on experimental only means that the client was patched; I believe the timing routine surak was referring to is client-side. Now, it was indeed a problem with the dual-core support of the game it seems, and I still don't understand why the anti-speedhack system which is supposed to be in place didn't work.

First, this question was not aimed at you since you don't seem to have a clue on how a game server is working anyway. An anti-speed hack measure usually checks the speed of players server-side, thus avoiding any speed problem like what happened to you *whether or not you were deliberately cheating*. Twinkle may not have been cheating, the result was just the same as a speedhack, that's how a speedhack works, it rewrites the timing routine of the client... My guess is that there are no anti-speedhack measures on the server at this moment, so I guess there aren't any in the codebase or that they're disabled.

Well, in order for Regnum to become PS (Planeshift), they'd have to ruin PvP, stop encouraging working in groups, remove 2/3 of the magic, make the remaining magic useless, remove all missile weapons and two-handed weapons, make shields useless, remove 99% of the clothing, hats and armor, turn the devs and moderators into overly sensitive jerks, never tell players when the server will be down for days during maintenance (bug-adding), stop all bug fixes, break half the quests, screw up inventory, get rid of Realm Points (they deleted the equivalent, called Duel Points), make the monsters "Impervious to attack" 2/3 of the time, and set the server to crash every 17 minutes. Then, tell everyone that they live inside a giant stalactite, and make it so it takes 3 years to max your character, which of course will never happen, because it will be wiped without warning.

Lol well its Still cheating if she used it for bad intention while knowing it is cheating. Besides, haven't I been saying the whole time that is was a server error? And how would YOU know if it was a server error. It all dosen't make sense to me, I know this isn't the last we'll be hearing of this.

If it was a server error, how come none of us felt the effects, seems strange to me only 1 person got it, I have nothing to apoligize until I hear the official side of this.

surak we have tried the experimental server and it looks promising, although twinkle is still fast, she has slowed by about 50% which is an improvement

Downside is, she is now a lvl 19 rather than 39. Is there any way to fix this?


Well after reading this tasty little bit im afraid I know for sure now that your porblem isnt over just yet. The reason she is slower and the reason she is 19 is because her lvl 19 character is saved on the expirimental server when she went on it at lvl 19 ( Because the expirimental server saves your character at the first time you go into the exp server )

But since you said her speed slowed by 50% this must mean she has had this problem since lvl 19, or lower even,

So I don't think your problem is solved, I hope you understand what I posted, sorry for the double post BTW.

While the last few days have been some what hard. I'm very glad to have stood by ya twink . As I knew the true lady you are and would never cheat.

It was great to see those who supported you and our clan. Tho sad to say most were from other realms I have gained a great respect for them . those few from alsius who stood with us I know you are a credit to our realm. And I will always be honored to stand beside you .
I remmber atime when this was the friendlest realm in the game and honor was something held high . Now its lets call names and run away . hummm what do ya call that? .........? You decide . We met Twinkle last night. I don't know if she still had the speed bug since I wasn't able to observe that much. She just ran a few steps back then stood still and turned around towards us.

I guess she wanted to run but if she still had a speed bug it won't look good so she stood her ground. If that is the case then I am impressed with her attitude. :)

I just had a thought, since it's fixed in experimental but not yet on official, what about hitting the "e" key, so you walk instead of run, with a speed increase, maybe your walking will be the same speed as regular running? (I don't know, never seen you move so I can't gauge the speed), but hey it's worth a try (:

It makes little diff if i put her on walk i did try that ;)

I have been working on other server with Serak to help sort out whats been going on Serak has sorted the problem out and going to be updating official server today sometime .
you will all be pleased to no i run normally on the exsperamental server now with what he has done, may need fine tuning a bit but im confidant NDG will have no problem doing that.
Hats off to NDG and especially Serak for there support and help in this

AS for all you who still think i used a cheat you are so wrong and the funny thing is most of the support has come from other relms a little ironic ay

Cause your own realm doesn't wanna look bad as the first one with a cheater and the rest of us don't wanna have cheats used on us. Those of us with conju have it hard enough as it is.
