Hey!
Yesterday I returned from a one-week trip. This morning (yesterday's night aswell) I wanted to play Regnum but it is quite unplayable. I am running through the landscape and I get heavy lags. I don't know if this is a problem with my pc or the game or the server.
Since the update which disabled the shaders for ATI the game went very fine. But when i returned yesterday i had massive lags.
When i walk around i always get set back many steps. Even with Mobility at level 4 and wild spirit at 5 i cannot catch a conjurer. After the lag my char turns into another direction aswell. I did not press any key.
My Settings are:
Anisotropic filter: 1x
Antialiasing: 1x
Terrain Detail: Off
Terrain Quality: Very Low
Water Quality: Low
Texture Quality: high
View Distance: low (before it went very good at ultra high)
checked boxes are: Weather FXs, Lightning and Particle FXs.
As I already said before the trip it worked perfectly. CPU usage is at ~85-93% and FPS are 30-42 depends on where i am. I play without sound and music. During the lags the fps counter shows me 0-9 fps.
I cannot imagine that this problem is only caused by my computer, but it's possible, though.
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (@1,8 GHz)
ATI Radeon X550XT
2 GB DDR-Ram
Anyone experienced this too? The game is unplayable for me now...

Okay...
I had a similar problem when I used Arch Linux.
But that was cause of the water, and I see that you have water details on low.

The problems seems to be hardware related , as I don't experience them and they affects your FPS.

Have you tried:

1. Re installing your drivers?
2. Re install Regnum ?

Else, check if these problems occur at certain spots, or in certain camera angels. That was the case for me.

In that case, it might be a shader causing the problem..
But you said you had disabled the shaders...

What if you try to put everything on max, will this improve the lags ?

higher graphics settings will work the card more and could cause even more lag.

Tell me tho, did you do updates to the client recently? Every time theres updates I have to go back and re set my settings to where it's playable for me as even tho the client says that the game is running at my custom settings it is actually running at high settings killing preformance for me with this slow card.

That's not all true :)
Increasing graphic settings might sometimes cause the game to run more smooth, but what I intended to say was:

If he turns up his graphic, and the FPS lowers to.. 20 maybe, and he's still experiencing these lags then the lags may not be caused by the graphic settings of Regnum.

Thanks for your post. I just tried this and I got a strange result:
Everything on max makes me having less lags! But the fps go deeper than a sea could be :D.
Now, I found anotherr setting that seems to work fine... Strange that it works best with the highest view distance.
I still get the lags but not that heavy... mostly when there are much trees or grass to load.
One more question:
Is it normal that regnum does not use the SWAP?

FPS does matter, to a point, if you exceed your monitor's refresh rate you can boos up the prettiness settings, if you fall below 30FPS lower them bach down a bit and the game will play smoother.

Is it normal that regnum does not use the SWAP?

the kernel decides what to swap.

to you lags: when you didnt use your box for a while. are you sure there werent any cronjobs or something running that ate the performance? like updatedb or something.

"top" told me that the only process with high cpu usage was regnum. It's average cpu usage is 80-93. But now the game runs fine like before :) There may have been some cronjobs. Don't know^^

I have similar problem for the past few days, but stranger.

When I play safe mode the game crashes every few minutes.
it was fine a few days ago.

But when I play on normal mode (no matter which graphic setting low or high=makes no difference) the game never crashes BUT suffers from heavy lags (high ping=1000-2000, and low fps=1) for a few minutes and then goes back to normal, and that happens every few minutes makes the game unplayable.
I try to connect to sites during the game lags and I have no connection problems to them, everything outside the game works great.
and the problems happen even when there are only 100-200 people connected to the Regnum server.

the game run fine in safe mode a few days ago
and in the beta it run great with normal mode on high settings.

I use ATI9800 Pro video card and run Linux Ubuntu.
it can't be an Hardware problem, the problem is 100% in Regnum.
after each update I expect surprises.
