I can get the game to run if i disable sound and music but if I try running the game with sounds/music enabled, i get this error in the terminal:

game: pcm_params.c:2351: sndrv_pcm_hw_params: Assertion `err >= 0' failed.
Saving backtrace to crash_backtrace_12832.log
Got SIGABRT (aborted)

I have the OpenAL packages installed. I started having audio problems with my computer ever since i installed pulse audio.

Any help would be much appreciated.

zeatchek,

Try putting this in ~/.openalrc:

(define devices '(native))

I added that in my openalrc file which replaced alsa, but theres still no sound.

Whats weird is that I click to enable sound and music in options then i click back and everytime i go back to options enable sound and enable music are unchecked.

right make sure when you're ingame that the volume levels aren't zero, and when next you quit the game cd to your regnum dir, and cd in to the live dir, once there type cp game.cfg ../

see the game.cfg in the regnum dir thinks your volume should be zero, while the game.cfg in live is the accurate (last known state) config, the root one just doesn't get updated

I had it working but then I had to reinstall my OS cuz of another problem.

Now i get this msg in terminal when doing aoss ./rolauncher

/regnum$ open /dev/[sound/]dsp: Invalid argument

I also can't go into window mode anymore.

stop reinstalling and fix your issues, you'll learn alot more and be a better tech at the end of the day! I know sometimes you have reinstall THIS IS NOT TRUE read up on linux it will blow your mind, redo your whole os recompile your kernel with the proper kernel modules read and you will be free

pieopa is on a distinguished road

Cool sound issues 64bit linux
I've installed all the alsa modules for artsd(my sound server), all my other games work fine, w0w, urt4.1, warsow, et(sound works anyway), aa, but this game as wonderful and beautiful as it seems to be refuses to give me any sound. The configuration menu sux azz and there doesn't seem to be a conf file to specify hw or snd server info. any help would just plain rok, as this game looks awesome and plays smooth on nvidia 8600gs 64bit Debian with the meager video settings maxed! thnx in advanced!

P.s. I can login and play just fine great game just no sound atm!

all that i know is that game use alsa

All configurations about the game that u can change are in the file named "game.cfg".

At the spanish forum we have a little "sound how-to", take a look :P

http://www.regnumonline.com.ar/forum/showthread.php?t=8086

May modifying the file /etc/openalrc you can fix it.

so you have any idea where game.cfg is, the only file I can find is the launcher .rolauncher

great ideas with etc/openalrc let me try that and see if I can't find this game.cfg, cause .rolauncher has the same sparse options the in game menu has

dude it's seriously in spanish lol

now regnok is downloading libmath* interesting it seems it needs an additional math library for the openal native setting hmm.... keep ya posted, no pun intended

I wonder why it's downloading all these gui and other libraries now and didn't before, did we have an update since this morning? ah well back to waiting,

Personally I think the idea of software audio mixing should have died in the mid 90s, I think it's atrocious. It's better to either let alsa handle the mixing, or even better, let the hardware do it, the problem is not all cards have drivers which are capable of mixing it in the driver, and even fewer have hardware mixing, but if you have a secondhand computer store near you (or even order it from the net) you could get the old and trusted sblive, because that has real hardware mixing. And if you pick up a used one, it's dirt cheap.
