Ok hopefully someone can help me here. Earlier today my CPU fan kicked in at full speed. At first I didn't think it was that big of a deal...until it never slowed back down. My fan never runs at full speed, something is up. I opened the case and checked to see what fan it was to make sure it wasn't the graphics fan or the PSU fan. I removed the CPU fan and cleaned both it and the heatsink. And it's still running full speed. I have no processes running my CPU is idling and yet it sounds like a jet engine in here. Any ideas?
*Edit*
Weirdest thing just happened, I got a tip from some forum to put the computer into hibernation. After I did that, the fan shut up. Hardboot didn't work but hibernation did. Must of reset something... The silence is bliss!
*Edit*
And now it's back on again grrrrr >.<

Heh good luck, I have same thing, my fan drives me crazy. The best thing is to buy a new one with new radiator, but no money eh!

Hmm... This looks bad, not for the fan, but for the config. Please, could you follow the basic guidelines on how to report an error or problem? That way we could help you faster ^^

Thanks Xeph but this wasn't so much a error report as much as a commentary on how much I hate japanese/chinese craftsmanship. I've finally got my new POS system up and running with the correct nvidia drivers compiled. You gotta love the Ubuntu black screen of death.

aric_swartzell,
Any reason you didn't use restricted drivers manager? Worked a charm for both my NVIDIA and wireless card.

Yeah I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 which uses the Nvidia 169 drivers for the restricted drivers manager. Which is having serious issues at the moment. I prefer the 100.14.19 driver.

aric_swartzell,
Ahh, I saw 7.10 and assumed you were using Gutsy. Next time say Hardy! ;P

Yes, I was asking what Nvidia driver Gutsy used for the restricted drivers manager. But I figured it out.

The computer that was having issues has died. I'm on a new computer now, all these issues have been solved.
