I'm new regnum, of course I'm running ubuntu. I ./ the launcher everything goes fine I get the accept agreement box, then the one that asks me to login in. I type in my info and i get "can not connect to autopatch server" or something along those lines. anybody got an idea?

Probably the server was down at the moment you tried.
Try again a bit later.

its still giving me the same message, this has been going on for over a day now... could it be a firewall issue?

Its probably a firewall issue.

The game servers are online.

Make sure that regnum has access to the internet on your firewall(Maybe thats why).

If not, did you install the linux client?

Yeah I used the linux client. I'm guessing its the school's firewall. I'm a college student in the states, and this school is REALLY uptight with their firewall...
