I want to reiterate on my previous comment: we're fighting here to tell what life is while we're loosing the chance to live it. We have experience, it's true, but yet there are a lot of things to come, a lot of problems to face and a lot of effort to make.

All of us have experienced awful situations. We all have our traits etched into our souls, but it's when you look back in the past and see that all the effort and sacrifice you've done when you finally realize it was worth the road. It's hard, and sometimes you have to walk it alone.

Life in this forum is just a small picture of what's outside. If people refrain from going outside it's their sole responsibility, and even if you want to help them the only thing you can do is to give them advice.

Cats are smart, true, but also dogs. Both of them have different skills and are not comparable to each other.

Cats live alone and have to live by themselves. Dogs, on the other hand, have to seek the best for the pack. Hence, cats are smarter to hunt small preys and scape quickly. Dogs are smarter when it comes hunting big animals and fighting.

I'm speaking through experience. I had dogs, I had cats.

Xephandor, I once had this cat that I trained to play catch...

You see on top of water bottles was a white cap that seemed to always get the attention of my cat when it dropped on the floor, for she would always run and swipe at it with her paw and chase after it...

Before I get to this it should be noted that I also taught her how to play hide and seek with the phrase "where is it" - where I would either hide an object, like the water bottle caps (in boxes, behind desks, chairs or couches, and under things like blankets) or I would hide behind something or under something while stating, "where is it"...

She was a quick learner and ever time she found the cap or me...

Anyways, one day I noticed this behavior, so I called her over to me and I would throw the cap and she ran as fast as she could to catch up with and when she did she often bounce it off the walls for a while, playing with. But after a while she would start to meow at me, which I later learned that it was a signal for me to trow it again...

However, noticing this I would take the cap and say "bring it" and go to where I was sitting and drop it at my feet...

After doing this for a while and timing it to the times that she would meow at me, I was soon able to have her bring the bottle cap back to me with the phrase "bring it"...

So can you imagine, a cat that played fetch? She loved this game and would play it for hours with me. I trow the cap, she bring it back, drop it at my feet and then the cycle starts all over till my arm hurt...

This isn't the only thing I taught this cat, however...

She also knew the phrase "outside" which meant that she needed time alone out on the deck of the apartment that we lived in...

She knew "want some" which meant it was time for tuna, her favorite food...

She knew "kisses", which meant to rub her nose against mine...

She knew the word "no" and also the word "sleep", which he would go the bedroom and lay in her bed...

To say that cats are only intelligent because they have to fend for themselves Xephandor is quite preposterous!

Trust me a cat can do much more then a dog, but you have to know their personality. And a personality isn't something that a dog comes with, for either they obey or not (and those that don't we call dumb or vicious)...

I didn't say that (well, I didn't want). Both cats and dogs are intelligent, but cats are smarter than dogs in some tasks and vice versa.

I had a german shepherd that was very protective and smart. She knew the tactical spots of the house, so when a stranger came to our house she could watch him (or her) all the time. There's a small corridor that separates the house in two halves. She knew a place to hide and watch almost every movement on the house.

My cat, on the other hand, is kind of dumb for those things (such as finding a place hide and hunt birds in the backyard or monitoring the activity in the house), but she is really good at solving puzzles (like getting food from the closed packs and stuff).

Animals are different, even the ones from the same species. I think you can't compare them :P

I have a cat called Indigo (indy for short), she is just like your cat..she acts more like a dog..i can play fetch with her..(shes actually chased footballs before now).She i also very vocal..she meows in a certain when i ask her "you want something to eat ?".. when she was a kitten every morning she wud sit on my chest and suck my eyeleashes till i woke up so i cud i feed her..<sigh> cats are awesome, independent, intelligent, loving creatures.. they remind me..of me. I like dogs but hmmm... cats are more for me and are just as loyal as dogs, if not more so..Indy is always in the window when i come home..waiting for me.

The Craft teaches us to find our Creatrix and Creator within us. God and Goddess for me are two aspects of the one Divinity. Different aspects of the divinity may be given different names. All that is natural is seen as good. Only actions that harm others are forbidden.
In practice it is not institutional. The Craft is learnt by people working alone or in small groups called "families", "circles" or "covens." It does not need expensive churches. Instead a temporary sacred space can be set up as needed by using symbols. There is no professional clergy governing a flock of laity. All are expected to learn how to write and work rituals. All become priestesses or priests.
The Craft probably developed out of the ancient tradition in many hunter-gather cultures in honouring certain individuals as "dreamers" or shamans because of their spiritual skills and often also their knowledge of healing. It was from the first a very nature centred spirituality and was especially strong in the countryside.

Some of those who are embracing the Craft today say that it was the teachings of Christ that led them to it - for they say they find the Craft with its emphasis on love, on the goodness of nature, as more true to Christ's teachings than are the Churches. But the major influences on them and on many among my friends seems to be simply that of instinct, of love of nature and of old memories. Some practice as solitaries, others in covens. Others have found the Craft through the revival known as Wicca which currently commonly uses variants of rituals composed by men that studied the Craft in the 1950s - such as Gardner. A more spontaneous Craft is taught in more recent books such as "The Spiral Dance" by Starhawk.

And I point this out not to speak ill of an interesting set of "naturalistic" beliefs but to light some attention on one of the last "true" shamanic cultures in the world: the Buryats, the aboriginal people of Olkhon (4th largest lake-bound island in the world, situated in Lake Baikal, the largest freshwater lake in the world by volume, Siberia). Other such cultures may be found among the Australian Aborigines, North-American Natives, among the Amazon tribes, South Korean mudangs and others... when they aren't caught by the vortex of modern world thus living on the fragile limb between their ancient teachings and contemporary lure.

Because it's very dandy to proclaim someone's atonement with nature just before starting a gasoline engine... or before turning on this computer where I'm writing I may add...

The good thing about the "Wicca" and other new age pro-nature theological sets is that they actually made something that otherwise would probably be impossible, to put nature on pop-culture's agenda. Now "nature" is a consumption good, better that then being just "a natural scenery"...

My profile shows my age?! Anyway... I'm younger then that (yes, and if we met you would be confused because I look even younger... no, I wont tell anyone where the fountain of youth is...)! I was referring to Gardner's initial works, which started on the second decade of 20th century if I'm not mistaken... my grandmother's birth was on the same decade. As for my mother being elder then the new age trends I assume that the "new age official start" (the age of Aquarius ^^) can be located somewhere in late 60's or mid 70's, hence my mother being elder then that.

But my assumptions may be incorrect. I just wanted to draw a line that could show the contrast between the relatively new "Wicca" movement and the way-before-Christ original Shamanic cultures (something that is redundant if we recall that at its core, the first "modern human" societies were... Shamanic).

But we may as well make a disambiguation here, I was focusing my reply on the "naturalistic" (as implying Shamanic teachings) aspects of the "Wicca" movement, which is more then that (often referred as "Neopaganism"). I may have oversimplified my reply... but nobody reads lengthy posts ^^
