Hey,

it's Ubuntu problems again. After upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy last night I tried running regnum today. Well, I was able to log in, but upon pressing "Enter game world" the client crashed. I ran the client from console and it gave me "Illegal instruction". I also tried with both MALLOC_CHECK_ set to 0 and 1, no difference. Any clues?

UPDATE: I don't even get past login now. The client crashes to desktop or console right away telling "Illegal instruction".

I'm using the old rolauncher (not from the new installer) on Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron 32bit with nvidia-glx-new driver ver. 169.12.

Cheers,
Manuel

UPDATE #2:

I did a backtrace and there seems to be a problem with the nvidia openGL driver:

#0 0xb7122350 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1
#1 0xb39b0000 in ?? ()
#2 0x00000000 in ?? ()

libGLcore.so.1 is from the nvidia-glx-new package. Does that help?

Try to use the old version of the NVIDIA driver?

Thanks for your reply, Znurre. I just found out that nvidia stopped support for non-SSE CPUs like my good ol' Athlon (yeah, I'm playing regnum with such an old bastard) with their latest drivers. So, you are right, I have to revert back. Just dunno how yet, without messing up my system. :bangin: I can't just download the old gutsy drivers and use them since they have been compiled to go with the 2.6.22 kernel modules - hardy is on 2.6.24.

So, I'll probably have to compile the drivers myself or use the nvidia binaries from their archives. At least now I know what the problem is. If I find an easy solution, I'll post it here, in case someone comes up with the very same problem.

If you want, I can post a direct link for the 100.14.19 drivers.
Just tell me.
