How to make one:
Didnt find any tutorials, but if any1 is a bit interested in elecronics should notice its simple as pie... Dont want to really explain that one here, cause its fun with around 400-500 Volts... So any1 that doesnt know electronics should stay away from it :P

Making of this one is simple too... you have to get a big inductor, with a metalic top that passes throu bigger ammounts of voltage, which appears as the lightning ;)
Btw - The inductor is making the sounds, not the lightning xP

Coil gun != Gauss gun.

The first one uses magnetic fields to pull a (commonly) ferric projectile. The second one uses the effect of the current going through an object to propell it along the rails.

The coil gun is the simpliest and cheaper of both. The only problem with those guns is that the intensive magnetic field jams the electronics. I don't have much experience with this guns, but a nice faraday shield should do the trick.

well, I just found out that physics is thebest way to spend your time (I mean things like the Potato gun), but its also a way to injure yourself xD Ive burnt my face yesterday with a prototype of the gun hehe. But too see those things shoot on 500-700 meters with a POTATO (!) using only PVC pipes, spray and a lighter.... it makes you scream WIIII, belive me ^^
