hi folks
i'm using ubuntu on amd64 machine (Pentium D)

all was going fine, i've installed lib32ncurses, the game ran, and downloaded some files from the server, but when i try to start the game, it just closes without any error messages

anyone had this issue? or is using Regnum with amd64 without problems?

thanks

any 64-bit cpu can do this.... EM64T & AMD64 are mutually compatible.

you can get this working, but forget it on ubuntu amd64.

what basically needs to happen is that the OS needs to provide a collection of 32-bit shared libraries to translate the kernel calls to their 64-bit equivalent.

This is something that ubuntu amd64 does not do. The only translation libs they provide are specifically tailored for OpenOffice.org and of na value whatsoever when it comes to other things.

There are ways around this, you can install ubuntu 32-bit in a chroot environment or use Xen to run a VM, neither is pretty.

The best distro's for pulling this sort of stunt are gentoo and suse who provide complete translation layers. Gentoo's libs are so complete that you can even run 32-bit windows media codecs through wine to 32-bit linux (emulated) on a 64-bit platform, I was impressed at that one :)

Anyway - you've just bounced off a major hole in ubuntu that has no neat or quick solution - sorry.

all the help you need you will find on the ubuntu forums but success is spotty at best.

The quickest route to this - run up a suse 10.2 amd64 system, it will just work :)

the best route, run up gentoo amd64 and smile (but cry while you build it :S)
