Hi

Im currently running Ubuntu (extremely new to linux, could barely install the game :P)
After some time i finally got it working, the screen was flickering, but changing the resolution to desktop resolution fixed that, now I have a new problem... After a variable time spent in-game, the game completely freezes. Meaning I can't even move my cursor, and the only way to fix it is to force a restart through holding the power button. I have an ATI radeon mobility 9600/9700 graphics card, and I've read that this can cause some problems. Really hope u can help me with this, thanks for any suggestions.

Hitting ctrl, alt and backspace doesnt fix it? It kills the X session, so you should not have to restart the computer.

Sadly regnum is veeery unstable, get used to crashed, but this is a odd one, normally the game just closes, doesnt freezes.

Does initializing the game in safe mode fix it?

Hehe, as I said I am very new to linux.
Basically I didnt know of the CTRL-backspace function :P Was spammin ctrl-alt-del, which strangely didnt work ;)
Will try that out, starting the game in safe mode didnt work since it caused the screen to flicker again, and I'd rather not develop epilepsy
Thanks for the advice though :)

It didn't? O_o

I remeber something similar happening to me.. Playing games just freezed the pc.

Try other game, like openarena and see if it happens too.

I have sometimes the same problem
the game freezes xserver, which means that display, mouse and keyboard won't work, but all other processes are running
one of the possibilities (heard of it, haven't tried) is to connect to the pc via ssh and restart xserver manually (sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart)
this problem happens to me less than once a month but it does happen :confused2:

Ubuntu 8.04
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 with newest fglrx drivers

I get it every time I play, think I've played for 10-15 mins at MAX before it crashing :( dont really know how to do the stuff u explained, dont even know what ssh is :P
downloading openarena atm, hoping it doesnt happen there...

You can use the really useful REISUB method.
Hold Alt+Print Screen and press the buttons R E I S U B in order on your keyboard.

This will restart your computer at once, with no risks of file system corruptions, etc.

Thanks for the tip about the REISUB method, works like a charm
Would still like to fix the problem with having to restart every 5 mins though xD
It happened once while in linux too now, hasn't happened before when I stay on it for longer periods, so I really don't know what to do :crying1:

Perhaps it's hardware related? :/
Try the System Stability Tester tool from http://qt-apps.org/content/show.php/System+Stability+Tester?content=60682&PHPSESSID=0e77d90b9c59622c6d28ab29d5762969

Yeah if this is a recurring problem, freezing the comp, it sounds very much like it's either hardware related or possibly driver related (but the first option seems more likely, possibly it's overheating?)

If you have another computer available, use that to ssh in to your gaming computer and keep one of the log files active (tail -f), that way you'll see when it happens again if the system gave a message or reason why.

Think it's very probable that it is hardware :( My computer completely crashed not too long ago, and i couldn't get into windows or even format my hard drive... (Currently running it from an external drive xD) oh, well.... guess i'll just give up then...
Thanks to everybody that came with advice <3

Probably not a related issue, but you can try to turn off "Terrain Detail" under Options -> Advanced options..
