It's not a serious problem, just a seriously annoying problem. While I'm running Regnum the screen *blinks* showing my desktop only for a split second. This happens every few seconds to. I don't think it's something to do with Regnum, because it happens while running other games to.
Any help would be appreciated.

First of all I'd suggest running a scan for your computer with Avira or other antivirus programs

Well I have a thing where windows installer comes up every 5 seconds on my computer. Its annoying because when I play a full screen game it minimizes the window and I have to reclick the game like 1000 times to get it to overlap the damn installer.
Still never found a solution

Yes I use Ubuntu v8.04 and I was slightly wondering the same thing but I don't completely know what I'm doing sometimes though so I went for it. The viruses were found in some windows programs that I downloaded and was running through wine.

Antivirus programs for linux search for windows viruses that can't do anything while you're running linux anyway; they are meant to run on email gateways, to scan mails passing thru it, for all those win viruses; So in essence, don't bother with antivirus-for-windows when you're running linux (:
I'm guessing here, and maybe someone else with experience with these things could comment, but might the flickering have anything to do with a compositing manager? Are you running beryl or compiz or anything like that?

Yes, I am running compiz. I'll see if that's the issue.
EDIT: That was the problem, I can't believe it was that easy.

Set "Visual Effects" to (none) under System/Preferances/Appearance and the annoying flicker will go away.
