View Full Version : Linux client hangs at checking firewall after September 4th update

After receiving the September 4th update and clicking "enter game world" and verifying my client hangs at the checking firewall window, which remains gray until I kill the process. No error message is given. I then restored a previously functioning backup which gave me the same result after receiving the update. I am yet to reinstall anew. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 and have included a screenshot of the above.

Seems like I have the same problem. Can't connect to Ra (or Horus), but Amun workes fine.

Try to remove all *.idx and *.sdb files from the Regnum folder.
It helped me in a similar situation last update.

I was just about to write that it didn't work, then the game suddenly started ;) However, I did the following:

Moved the .idx and .sdb files to a backup folder and ran rolauncher, trying to log into Ra. Didn't work this time either, so I moved the files back and tried to run rolauncher again. It didn't start at first, but then it suddenly the game started! Wierd, huh.

Thanks Znurre!

After removing all *.idx and *.sdb files I now see the checking firewall window instead of a gray box, as displayed in the attached screenshot, but it still hangs there until I kill the process. However, I now get the following message after killing the process:

XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"
after 42094 requests (42094 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

I would suggest you to try and remove the whole Regnum folder, and reinstall the game.
Kathris Starsong had the same problem after upgrading from openSuSE 10.3 to openSuSE 11, and removing and reinstalling everything helped her.

If this doesn't work, I just hope that Surakor or Kailer can stop by this post and give you some advice.

yes my problem was that I didn't deinstall before I reinstalled. Hmmm classical n00b error I would say :clapping5365:

I have reinstalled the game and it now sometimes hangs as described in my previous post and it sometimes works. This may be as good as it gets for me, thanks guys.

Is it possible to get any response about this problem?
Because reinstalling game is not really option for my slow connection, so if there is any fix or something that can help, please post it. (deleting those files didnt help)

Are you using the 'sync all resources at once' option?

Yes, I do.

After the client appeared to be running consistently I enable the "Update all new resources at once" option. The client then appeared to hang at the checking firewall window as in my second screenshot. Given the option previously enabled and the activity on the modem I assumed it was downloading the resources at the checking firewall window. After the activity on my modem died down I once again killed the process and started the client again. The client now functions as before the update.

Yes, I do.

We are checking this option functionality. Meanwhile, try not using it.

Out of curiosity I unchecked the "Update all new resources at once" option in my old client to see if it would then connect. It still hangs at a gray box where the checking firewall window should be as in my first screenshot.

Still same, only font on "Checking firewall" screen is bit bold and maybe little different style, mouse turns into colorful square and nothing happens.

I have this problem frequently now and I do not use the "download all resources" option. When it gets stuck, it looks like nikolaos' second screenshot, with the black "Checking firewall" box.

I just have to keep killing the process and trying again, it eventually works for me that way... :( Oh, and I have reinstalled twice now to see if that was the problem, but no joy.

I have this problem too. Though I have Windows. I don't have sync all resources at once tho

Surak, what happened with this? Does this option work (download at once) as it should, or its still under checking?

im running both ubuntu 8.04 and 8.1
nvidia card .. but it shows as an ati on the start screen

same problem on both .. it hangs on the little black checking firewall ... do i have to install one so it can find it .. or is somebody going to finally address the coding problem ? ( over 18 months now )

i also occasionally get the white screen where the little robot should be on the start movie

i have not checked the install all at once option

i have unchecked the full screen mode .. so i can unlock the white screen problem without rebooting

does anyone look at these problems .. ?
does anyone have any idea what part of the code was changed to create the problem .. ?

we need to find some things that seem to be common to the problem

i can usually play after updating after an install / reinstall

as soon as i have played it gets this problem .. so maybe something in the shutdown menu

i can log to another server for the first time it works good .. as soon as i try to reopen its stuck again

ok
some things i have noticed

switching to the other server usually works .. .. ie .. the server i log out of will be the one that persistently freezes the next time .. but the other normally works first or second try
