View Full Version : Translucent Regnum
Hello everyone! I just installed Hardy Heron and now Regnum opens in a translucent window when played in full screen. If I play it on windowed mode, I don't have this problem. On Gutsy with Compiz, I didn't have this problem. I'm sure it can be fixed somewhere in the Advanced Desktop Effects Settings but I can't find it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

LoL, sorry I don't have any answer, but this is the funniest linux problem I've ever heard ;p
Yeah I found it pretty amusing too. I'm pretty sure the problem lies somewhere in compiz' settings. It's been a while since I've played with those settings so I'm a little lost.

I LOL'd :-D you must provide some screenshots!
did you try alt+mousewheel to change the fullscreen window transparency? in ccsm (advanced window effect settings) it's I think under the General - Opacity (or Transparency? dunno) and maybe there you have fixed transparency for some kind of windows
I tried to take a screenshot, but taking a screenshot displays the game normally. I found the problem... Setting the "dropdownmenu" to a translucent setting in compiz will make regnum translucent. I wonder why it would think regnum was a drop down menu lol...
I'm still looking for a way to exclude just the regnum window from any compiz effects...

I'm still looking for a way to exclude just the regnum window from any compiz effects...What if you start it in a new xsession? Like vt8 for example.

In Linux you have different "virtual consoles".
If you press Ctrl+Alt+F1 on your keyboard for example you will come to a terminal.
The standard graphical enviroment is usually running in VT7 (Ctrl+Alt+F7)
There are ways to start a new application inside a such session, I will show you how to do it later doday when I come home.

Here comes Znurre's (in)official guide for running Regnum in another X session.
Step 1: Prepare an .xinitrc file.
cp ./.xinitrc ./.xinitrc.bak
echo -e "cd /path/to/regnum/\n./rolauncher" > .xinitrc
This will backup your old .xintirc file and create a new one, which will start Regnum on X startup.
Step 2: Start Xorg in Virtual Terminal 8
xinit -- :8
Step3: Revert
If you do not revert to your old .xinitrc your Xorg will start Regnum each time you log on.
To revert, simply run cp ./.xinitrc.bak ./.xinitrc
Enjoy! :)

Actually running multiple instances of X won't magically spend more resources; all resources that one X uses are shared with the others
