I am using Ubuntu on an older laptop (2005) with an onboard Intel card. I got Regnum to install fine and dandy, but when I go to run it, after I type in my name and pass I get the message that says

1. My video card is too old.
2. I need the latest drivers.
3. I need the latest DirectX

I got the latest DirectX thanks to WINE but it won't allow my to install the drivers. Is my card actually too bad to even ATTEMPT to run this game?

The memory on the card is a modest 128MB.

Thank you for the help.

The Intel GMA Video Card Series can't fully support Regnum AFAIK. It works, but not as fine as it would run with an Nvidia or ATI graphics adapter.

You have to enable the S3TC textures using a program called "driconf".

Hi nickelpat,

Firstly, you should be running the native Linux client, not the Windows (DirectX) client under Wine.

That said, you would get very poor performance on such a graphics processor. This is because not only is embedded graphics (IGP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_processing_unit#Integrated_graphics_solut ions)) horrible to begin with, but Intel tries to offload lots of work on the CPU, so there is very little hardware acceleration beyond basic 3D rasterization.

If you manage to get this working, use a low resolution (like 800x600) and Safe Mode for best results. And as many owners of Intel graphics chipsets have discovered, you may suffer frequent crashes, especially during intensive battles. Using Safe Mode will reduce but not eliminate these crashes.

Overall, your performance may vary. It is not recommended to use a laptop for gaming.

Thank you for the help. I tried the S3CT fix and it did work, albeit with some pretty psychedelic looking rocks and, at times, the armor on other players.

I know laptops aren't for gaming (at least this is one isn't) and for that I do own a desktop. This is a secondhand computer from a family member and I thought I should put it to use. There's plenty of Linux-native shooters I can run on it, but I'm trying to find one or two persistent MMOs I can run on it as well.

Again, thank you for the help.
