I am merely interested, are anyone playing regnum with 5.1 sound installation?
Currently it's only stereo supported, but will it get 5.1 support in the future?

Hi AwD,
Regnum Online uses DirectSound3D or OpenAL for sound output, this means that the support for surround sound setups is handled entirely outside of the game by the Operating System.
Your sound card must firstly support 3D sound mixing, and the OS has to be configured for it. For example, if your sound card does not have an analog surround sound encoder built-in to it, and your external surround sound decoder only supports analog input, you won't be able to have 3D sound.
You must have one of the following configurations:
- Sound card with analog 5.1 stereo matrixing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Pro_Logic), external analog 5.1 decoder system with stereo input
- Sound card with digital 5.1 mixing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Digital), external digital 5.1 decoder with 5 or 6 digital inputs
Most sound cards do not implement the first configuration except NVIDIA's NFORCE Audio, so if your external decoder system only supports analog instead of digital then you are out of luck. On the other hand, sound cards with digital output usually require a special connector to be installed called S/PDIF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S/PDIF), and for it to be enabled in your drivers. All of this is very hardware- and software-specific.
Hope this helps. :)

So with all of that, you'd actually hear 3d sound in regnum?
I have a kit 5.1 and it works good with Regnum (when i use but it's not very often xD :P).
If it could help about compatibility or something else, I have a Xi-fi Xtrem Gamer Soundblaster sound card and a kit 5.1 Creative Inspire T6100.

5.1 dolby surround works with regnum, but not the 3d sound froste mentioned and I wanted it to, so my question still stands, think it will be supported in the future? I think that if this was implemented it would definaltey improve gameplay.
