I'm trying to play the game on this Linux distro but it is not working. is it because its KDE based and not GNOME?

Most likely it's not related to KDE, but if you post what errors you get when trying to run the game someone might be able to help you.

To be able to help you, you could also provide some more information about what version your're using, what graphics card and drivers you are using, etc.
