View Full Version : The Young Alsius - Fort wars and the art of IGNORING THE RAMPARTS
Ok...so this one's a pisser. Attacking the ramparts (or the folks on them) does what??? Na-friggin-da....
Order of business in a fort war should ALWAYS be:
1. Kill the friggin guards - everyone kill the guards
2. Knock down the door
Until those two are accomplished you can shoot people on the ramparts till the cows come home and you'll never take the fort.

It depends what class you play, with most classes i agree but not when it comes to warlock (2). If i get close to the door, the only place i can attack the door without being shredded by archers then i get jumped by a bunch of barbarians = a trip to the save. So as warlock i rather clean the wall than go to the door unless there's loads of conjurers at the door.
When i play knight i see it as my main job to take care of guards and warriors going for area at door. Barbarians should keep on hitting the door no matter what happens.
Important! Keep a bit too the sides of the door i hate to be unable to click a enemy barbarian just because he hides inside a utghar.

Like he said. And in some situations aiming straight for the door is plain stupidity.
I remember a time at trelle where greens were defending with 15 archers and 2 barbs inside.
You think we could even get close to the door without cleaning the ramparts?
Keep an open mind. Some situations require different messures.
Right having locks against the wall using MOD is key....once in a while throw a terror when the archers get too many - but for most all other classes....knock the door down - especially archers - you can hit the door from a safe distance.
Ok...so I think your taking the comment to the extremem. Right, not everyone needs to focus on the door but most. Right now it's the opposite...most focus on the rampart and you have only a few hitting the door....you'll get nowhere that way.

No worries Compo, might be a case of bad english from me :)
And yes MoD is really important, but it's wasted if it only last 2 seconds so if i'm gonna use MoD i need allies who cover me. For some reason it's way easier to use MoD at aggers than at trelle (maybe because we get reinforcements to aggers way faster).
Yes archers can hit the door. I try to help the warlocks a bit when i play conjurer with a tremor to the wall when there's no enemies outside, when tremor is on cooldown i focus on the door. A tremor is usually enought to make a few enemies jump down.
Another thing: if nothing else stops that guy casting area, a quick beetle swarm will do it.

About warlocks. I think they should always attack from the sides when possible.
Gives a higher chance of hitting with terror, besides getting cover from those steroid pumped archer guards...
I'm starting to hate them so very much...

While I agree that the bulk of the force should focus on the door a small group poking the archers ties up alot of resources. I can typically tie up 4-6 enemies by keeping them focused on me instead of the warriors at the door who are doing the bulk of the damage anyways. If I have a conju parked near the wall giving heals and mana I can keep even more aggrevated and away from the real damage dealers. Of course there is no right or wrong tactics. Each case must be examined and your tactics should be flexible and adapt quickly. (guess that sounds funny coming from someone who still hasn't changed their hunter setup since the hunter nerf...)
