With a barbs veiw right up in the action, watching for threats, picking out targets, spotting groups that could be easily E-waved, targets for Ms etc... its pretty hard to spot if enemy players are consistantly playing smart, using clever tactics etc... Maybe Ill play marks a few days to get a more 'overall' view and try come up with one :p

I've noticed that 80% of players mentioned no longer play RO. Here i will name some of active players who I think have done quite well in 2011 based on my experience. These players are not someone i know personally. almost all of them are from the opposing realms. I respect them for their outstanding warzone performances and progress throughout the year :) i think they deserve to be mentioned here

You can't really compare the two generations. Regnum was a whole different game back then and 90% of people on this list (in 2009, when thread was started, not after it was necro'd the 1st time in 2010) earned their stripes in a much more interesting, skillful and dangerous world of Regnum, the 0.9.x versions of the game. :D

I think the original version refers to the time before global cooldown and strafe and attacking-while-standing-still were introduced. obviously we can't compare players from different generations because they are two different combat systems with somewhat different spells. i dont see how players in the older versions is superior than the players in the newer ones tho. maybe in the old times before ndg introduced lucky box and premium gem, players don't rely on their gears as much as we do now and so more skill is involved in combat. There was a time when a single player can take on 3 to 4 targets at once and prevail in the end especially if u r a warlock. This is a problem for veterans for all MMO's that take a break - games change and update, if you take a break you just have to accept that when you return you will have some catching up to do, it's only natural and may not actually be a bad thing.

And yes, before it didn't matter what gear you had, before you really could solo more then 1-2 enemies at the same time because if someone couldn't play the game no gear helped him, back then you couldn't have just an universal build for every situation like now, etc.

But still, Regnum is different now, and even now I'm sure there are pretty skilled players as well, but to say who is better or argue about that would be pointless. Two different worlds, two different games really.

I play a barb. I cast all buffs I have which are level 5 then I hit people. A lot of times I use fulminating at level 5 too. I kill lots with these superior tactics.

Hello! Been a while since I've posted.

I agree with many others here when they say the past line of players are simply incomparable with the current crop. The basic combat of the game has changed so much that it would be impossible (and in some instances unfair) to compare the two generations.

If I were to compare Regnum of the old days to today's version, the older version was more about anticipating your opponent's moves while the current format is more about reacting to them. This difference lead to a huge shift in player-skillsets. Neither is better than the other.

That said, I can't help but look back with fondness on the old Regnum. That was a game I miss. :)

Perhaps I'm not observant enough to notice my gear having a substantial effect or maybe it's because of my class.
I've got full elite knight armour pieces with bonuses (Const/health/AP/AS/HC) and I only ever notice the health - it's hard to miss :D - and the AS.
Damage from weapons is of course noticeable if you use two different weapons of the same class long enough.

I both experienced new skool and old skool regnum and I can say Old skool would propabbly kick new skools ass which in most stuff in the world is the case. Saying Regnum (1+) can't be compared to today's regnum is nonsense yes it changed, certain classes used to be much stronger (locks,hunters) but look at the today's reality we still got some kick-ass locks and hunters for example Hephaestus II and Immortal Demon

I've been playing for a long time... I have tactics that change all of the time, builds that change, etc. It doesn't mean anything. If you are always playing a certain way, you have a weakness, so the strongest players are those that are dynamic and always changing. This means that what they try to do will fail horribly sometimes, as it is experimental, but that is just the way of the right. Taking risks is the number one way to accomplish a goal, those who play it safe don't get to experience that dynamic.

as for my hunter )which was hilariously killed due to my slow reactions..lack of sleep, and just not really thinking. oh well.

I have fune regardless, just skilled spells 'I' like personally, screw pets, never used them since Ra, i picked up confuse again, but I haven't actually used it i think so far, probably drop it, just wanna see how it affects classes if i ever remember i skilled it. Low level but having fun, low hp cuz im an elf, not anywhere near a pvp setup with any damage skills :D so i just spam spells till I'm dead. I thought about some but, decided it wasnt worth it due to the difference/reduction.
use only 2 sb's that are identical dragonwing fast 30's with 5+5 cs and 5+5 as and some weak damage bonus, (they max at maybe 100) just serve a purpose of casting a lil faster, or rapid shot/rol/as bow + whatever. df or cb, but i gave up damage till I level. for now its just fun to play how I wanna, whether that means dying fast ;)
