so ive been playing this game for nearly a year now and ive never had a problem with the direct-3d option, but now i am getting an error message all of a sudden when pressing enter world (error intializing 3d renderer), so i downloaded directx from a link on the forums.... still same error, so i was suggested to try using openGl instead, but i am only given the option of direct 3d, what do i do?

Hi, the only thing I can suggest is running "dxdiag", the directx diagnostic tool, and see if it reports any errors. If there's no OpenGL option it'll be because your graphic drivers don't support it.

Need to know ur card info Glulose. If using an nvidia GEforce 8x series and newer here is a link for their new opengl beta in their drivers: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/opengl_3_driver.html

Older more stable versions of the driver should be available with the semi-latest drivers, the latest drivers already include the openGL update.

If you have a diff graphics card you should check with the graphics card provider for updated drivers.

i tried it syd, thanks but it did not work, but i found opengl 2.1 i tried downloading it but found out i already had it, so now my question is: if the program is supported that why am i not receiving an option for opengl? do i have to reactivate it or something? thank you

If my memory serves me well (it's been a long time since I installed Windows for the last time), DirectX breaks the compatibility with OpenGL if it is installed after the drivers.
As far as I know, the only way to solve this is to (re)install an up-to-date version of your Drivers.

Im now getting this problem as well >_>

Has anyone fond a way around this yet, ive been searching around for Drivers but id rather not be paying out $30 for some BS that may not even work. And being 16 can you see were that convo would go...

"I need $30 for drivers on the pc"
"Whaa??"

:(

I'm on Vista using a bog standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

Do you know if it's a nvidia or ati chipset? Anyway you can download and install both drivers, it will pick the right one for the graphics adapter.

Check the nvidia or ati official site. :P

The Nvidia site has some scanner thingy and is searching my PC to see if I need any of the Drivers, but the AMD one... so many drivers, how on earth do I know which one I need??

well my prob is fixed, i just went to the site of my comps manufacturer, typed in the comp details, model etc.... and it gave me a list of all original programs my comp came with, including the drivers, then i downloaded them, solved my prob.

Um, sorry to ask this but is your copy of vista legit? Because from your DXDiag report you're running an old version (pre Service Pack 1) of Vista Ultimate on a machine with 512MB of Ram, and I don't know anyone who would do that. Whatever you do running Vista on that machine isn't gonna be much fun.

Anyway the report confirms a problem, eg:

DDraw Status: Not Available
D3D Status: Not Available
AGP Status: Not Available

These should really all be "Enabled".

If your windows copy is legit you the first thing you should do is try Windows Update to get all driver updates. There will be a lot of other windows updates for you there too though; one of them will be Sevice Pack 1 (which you may wish to download & install separately first from here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B0C7136D-5EBB-413B-89C9-CB3D06D12674&displaylang=en) [~500MB]).

If that doesn't help you should go to http://support.euro.dell.com/ (I assume from your location you'll want the UK site), go to downloads and enter (preferably) your service tag (should be on sticker on your pc), or your model number and download & install the chipset and video drivers from there. (This is assuming you haven't upgraded your hardware from factory spec.)

You may also want to check your DirectX is up to date from (here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en)).

Its ligit, and runs well, strangely :} Ive wondered how myslef... Im in need of a new pc soon but all sorts of more urgant shit keeps coming up :/

Ive tryed some of that, but ill have a look at the rest, Also I have DirectX10, some people told me vista has issues with it, but when trying 9 instead it just tells me I have a more up to date version then exits the install.
