SB is finally getting the axe...was browsing for new PvP games and came across Regnum. Anyone here previously played SB and care to make some comparisons, or make a few comments on Regnum's gameplay? Thanks in advance!

Regnum keeps getting better and better, then suffers a rough patch for a little while... then starts this cycle again.

It sounds stupid but one of the best features is the community. Ive never seen so little spamming, or abusing on realm chats that its actually good to chat with everyone as we're all friendly. :)
Graphics are good, the first 35-ish levels are hard but the Warzone will clear that up for you. And like Static said, the patches make Regnum better every month, but we still get a few bugs to Hotfix.
All in all, a great MMO, considering its free to play.

I've not played Shadowbane, but I've looked at some videos and actually considered playing it, even though I would have needed to use Wine.
My impression of Shadowbane was that the fights were very big and chaotic with many small characters running around anywhere, but the big variety of classes and the possibility to build own structures made it sound interesting anyway.
In Regnum, the primary action is about capturing enemy forts and castles, and try to hold them against enemies.
The best thing with Regnum imo. is that each class have something unique (even though this can make some classes less needed in war than others), so for example, in a war you need conjurers because they are the only ones that can heal others.
So, it's very much teamwork involved in the battles.
Another good thing with Regnum is the Open RvR.
Regnum's RvR rocks, in the way that it's not instanced like in many other games, like WoW.
The RvR is everywhere and all game elements are built around this, making Regnum probably the best RvR MMORPG on the market.
Ofcourse, not all things are good with Regnum either.
The grinding can be very boring and slow, it will take you long before you can actually be useful in war and the way there is painful.
Buying Ximerin (premium currency) will help a lot, and can give you instant level 30 and up to +200% experience boosts, making the way to level 50 (max level) very easy.
Ximerin is designed in a way it will not affect the RvR/PvP balance.
The game can happen to be very static at times, but updates comes very often (usually once a month) and brings many new things.
A tip is to make good friends in the game, join a good clan and make a good mix between hunting, war and PvE like boss fighting to enjoy the game as much as possible.
Welcome to Regnum Online!

Well, first, welcome to Regnum Online. Here's a post Edge made, and i seriously love it. And I think this is a great way to tell you how Regnum is XD
Well, its not exactly like that, its getting better.
But for some reason this is Edge's thoughts... Enjoy!
UNofficial Regnum Online Leveling Guide:
Hello and welcome to the world of Regnum Online, through this epic one page guide you will discover the tips and ways to get the full ingame experience, so join us on our journey through and let the fun, fun, fun commence!
To start out, Regnum is based upon grinding based leveling, this means you will spend most of your time leveling in a trance like manner. Kill, rest, kill, rest, kill, rest, etc. And it goes on and on! Remeber you'll be fighting the SAME mobs most of the time for days, sometimes weeks if your lucky! For more information please refer to section 5.9C on where to find your mob's.
Congratulations! You just hit a level! Isn't it fun killing Hyenas nonstop? Every 10 or so levels they get slightly bigger, talk about fun! If your getting bored of Hyena's, which sources indicate is highly unlikely, you can go looking for other mob spawns, in some places players will need to use skill and wit to get flying mobs or mobs that run up cliffs, making the reward all the more rewarding! (Note: Sometimes you may need to battle other players in a battle of who gets the mob first due to limited spawns, this is just another exciting feauture in Regnum Online!)
New level hooray! Are you having fun? Now lets go all over again, except this time we'll kill x3 as many mobs as before! (Purchase of premium strongly advised) YIPPIE! Once your level 4 you may start to notice you need more exp each level. Well luckily you can join a fun club! (AKA Zerg) The fun club will serve you as your new family, you can do eeeeverything together! Whether it be killing mobs, or killing other players. But whoah there tiger, take it easy, you still have a long way before killing other players!
For a taste of flavor you could go in the warzone to train, after all this game is filled with flavor and diversity. Now if along the way you get camped you need to remeber, the friendly community is just saying hello to you, so next time your at Beach Save with 20 Igneans down your neck, remeber its common courtesy to wave and say hello!
Now after a couple months, you will finnaly reach your target (or still may have another year to go considering you didn't use premium) and your level 50! NOW you can finnaly have all the fun and excitement you dreamed about when you first came to this game! Your all ready now for the warzone! So what are you waiting for? Get your ass over that wall! Are you expecting to get the full experience? Well boy, you will get it! Absolutley nothing changes! As was said, you can get killed by a level 37, get KOed by a zerg, or even better be the victim of a class in imbalance! Well I won't keep you all waiting! Get out there and have fun! Now you can look upon your wonderful journey and all the time and/or money you spent on it, hell yeah it was worth it! So start all over again this time with the right class or in the right realm! The end

I'm sorry. I just got a little thorn in my eye, and had to get it out.
Actually two thorns.
The RvR is everywhere and all game elements are built around this, making Regnum probably the best RvR MMORPG on the market.
Thorn number 1:
All game elements are definately not built around RVR, if they were they would have made the grind shorter/easier and the droprate of items higher/less important.
Thorn number 2:
The best RVR MMORPG on the market was - and still is - the game that invented the damn thing, and they did it better even though they did it back in 2001.
Dark Age of Camelot. You should try it sometime. :-)
That'll be all :-P
hello Grathane,
Interesting difference from SB is that chars skill-builds is not static(not like most f2p games), you can reset your skills anytime and make new ones. People used different skills setups for grind, fort wars, epic mobs, hunt, weapon and armor equip.
З.Ы. dont kick me for my english ;)

almost every mmo has that, but in some it's premium content.

I started playing SB in Beta, stopped near launch for around 2 or 3 years and then started playing again, on and off.
From what I have researched about Regnum, the differences I have found seem to be;
- Much harder to get to max level than SB (No other game I know you can fully level and gear out an entire spec group within 1 day :P)
- All forts/castles are realm owned, not player owned like SB City's
- There is no lower level PvP as of yet (I believe they are planning on putting some in in the future), so you can only really start PvP around level 30 at the earliest, if you want to be somewhat useful at least.
- Not really sure about guilds and the use of Ventrilo/Teamspeak or other voice chat clients used for better GvG
- The classes and races are less limited than in SB, but hopefully still provide for some nice diversity in PvP.
Hopefully I don't seem as if I am bashing Regnum, anyone that has played SB will know it had many, many flaws :P But these are the differences I have found so far.
I will probably start playing Regnum as well, either Regnum or AoC or WAR I guess for me. But Regnum has got my attention so far as I see it does have a lot of potential. Hope to see you in game.
