Have you checked the game directory (usually ~/regnum/live) for crash backtrace log from the time you crashed?

libs/libcore_client.so(_ZN10ClientBase14save_backtraceE v+0x79) [0xb7e65259]
libs/libcore_client.so(_ZN10ClientBase12client_crashEi+ 0x1b) [0xb7e6552b]
[0xb807a400]
/usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1 [0xb6378513]
this is the error, i've other 12 crash backtrace log where the only thing that change is the number in the square parenthesis...

i hope something in this post will be usefull...

I've had this problem on my NVIDIA 9600GT before.... safemode will end the crashes though I cannot offer you a better fix...
It happened the most with mine during the problem with the resource download function.. so perhaps making sure you have "Download all new resources at once will help.
Also try launching RO like this:
export MALLOC_CHECK_=1
./rolauncher
See if that helps.
