View Full Version : Rolauncher bug prevents correct downloading of updates

Using the latest installer/rolauncher it's impossible to update a fresh install of the game.

I've attached a screenshot showing the bug in download progress. If I leave the launcher running, it will happily "download" endless megabytes of resources (without showing a decrease in my free disk space). If I click on the "exit" link, the window stops responding and I need to open up a terminal to kill it.

Same here. My old computer bought the farm, and I haven't been able to play for quite a while. I just built a new one, and am installing RO fresh. I have the same problem, except that if I leave it long enough, it eventually either hangs and I have to kill it, or I get a popup that says "There was an error patching the game" and it exits. :crying1:

I'm running the Linux 64-bit binary under Sabayon Linux.

Any help from NGD would be MUCH appreciated. My characters have been idle for over a month and I'm sure they are itching to get out and fight!

hey xia, i got the same issue, with only difference is that my launcher got to like 200mb+ of updates.

edit, tried even with http://download01.regnumonline.com.ar/autopatch/launcher2_linux/rolauncher (what kailer posted on windows part of forum), not doing any good since the game is still updating to infinity.

i get this issue only, if i try to run regnum on my 64bit Arch in a bundled 32bit system. I was wondering if it would make any difference to the framerate or CPU load if i run regnum as 32bit client in a bundled 32bit sytem instead of using 32bit libraries and the 64bit client. Furthermore i wouldnt need the 32bit libraries if it would work.

I have the very same problem too, tried on Kubuntu Jaunty & Karmic (32bit); with both installer on dl section of the site and the rolauncher on Kailer's post in Windows section mentioned in this post earlier

Same problem here, I got a fresh install, it gets through the first update (which is like 4 MB) and then it gets to a 19MB one which doesn't stop at 19.

it does say "done" at a certain point, but it doesn't respond and I have to kill it. Next time I open rolauncher it downloads a 7MB update which crashes with the error everyone's been getting "there's been an error patching the game" or something like that...

I'm running Kubuntu 9.04, on the latest KDE (4.2...something). I never had the game installed on my comp before, Just trying to get it work for the first time.

Note: I also tried running the whole process (installation, then again on each time opening rolauncher) with sudo, didn't help.

I have similar issue and the game exists with vague message "There was an error patching the game". So I can't play anymore. :-(

Well, the good news is the launcher is not totally broken. The problem is that it can only update 32 files at a time. :(

Workaround: Every 32 files, kill and restart rolauncher. Repeat until entire live folder (over 500 files) is up to date.

this is a retarded way.

try to ./game <username> <md5hash-password> to bypass the launcher.

I was coming from a fresh install, NC. I didn't have the game executable, much less the rest of the files in the live directory.

Anyway, now that I do have the files, I'm using your way to call the game, so TY for the tip!

I'm coming from a fresh install too, how did you GET the files, linear? with the 32 files thing? cuz I didn't understand how to do that, please can you explain a bit?

The new launcher downloads its files via HTTP. Please, whoever is having problems, give me details of your internet connection (ISP, proxy server?)

well, my download of regnum installer included test_linux/ dir, so i just copied the files from there to live/ and started it by bypassing the rolauncher. only problem is, i'm back to my usual segfaulting under linux since i'm forced to work with open source drivers =/

as for surak, t-com/scumm is my isp... i've no clue on proxy :D

I have a cable connection, external IP, no firewall, no proxy. Everything worked fine before the new version and it always fails in the same moment (last 2600 kb update).

Surak, I had looked at packet capture from the launcher. It gets the first 32 files correctly, then it loops back to request the same files again, over and over. You can also see this by watching the changing timestamps of existing files as they are overwritten by the launcher.

This doesn't look like a problem with ISPs or proxies, it looks like a bug in the code.

Yeah, since it always fail at the same byte.

Isn't there a way to patch the game manually? like download the file via the browser and apply it ourselves? ...

Anyway I tried copying the files from test_linux to live, then running rolauncher...
seemed to have worked fine... everything running ok so far. :clapclap:

So thanks, Nightchill :)

Many people with the same problem over at regnum-online.de

Someone posted this archive
http://rapidshare.com/files/243510505/regnum.tar.gz.html

I don't exactly know what they did with it but it seems to work. Of course it does not fix the problem!
And no one can guarantee that it is malware free.

I told the people who have this problem to pass infos about ISP, firewall and so on. I'll redirect the information here.

Can I just say that this is not an issue with our ISP's. There is no way that suddenly, all over the world, at exactly the same time, every ISP shafted RO, and only shafted it for linux users.

Also, as others have said, the problem occurs at exactly the same point every time, and it seems to be an infinite loop, which is a bit shoddy.

Has to be said, its all well and good doing updates, but if it borks for all of us linux users (and there a fair few of us out here) then its not really an update, is it?

Time to let us loose on the source NGD? :fingers: Failing that, how about having a dedicated linux community testing team?

Oh, and failing on 64bit ubuntu 9.04 and 32bit mint 6, and 32bit debian lenny.

the new rolauncher is good, update goes painfully slow tho, guessing your mirrors are throttled.

kudos.

Where is that fixed rolauncher? When I downloaded the installer package from the site it has exactly the same size as the one I already had.

Same size doesn't mean same code :P

Yeah, indeed, if you put 64 instead of 32 in the string size. ;-)
