View Full Version : RO and Mumble 1.1.8
Hey,
anyone having problem setting up Mumble overlay?
Couple of us tried with Mumble 1.1.8 to set it up, but no luck, overlay doesn't appear. However, friend with Mumble 1.1.7 is able to get overlay working in Regnum.
I tried to Google about it, but didn't see any report about 1.1.8 having problems with it.
My settings are well checked: overlay turned on in Mumble, colors and position set, size of font is 28, there is link with game, Mumble started first....
I am starting Regnum with
mumble-overlay ./rolauncher
but it just starts Regnum, no overlay in game.
If anyone has solution, please share it :)
OS: Linux
Kubuntu 9.04 KDE 4.3

Kubuntu 9.04 KDE 4.3Try starting it bypassing the launcher.
cd live
mumble-overlay ./game username hash
I was thinking to try that, but decided not to.
However, I tried now and nothing happens.
Started RO like that, Mumble noticed Regnum is linked, and that's it.
No overlay in game when I enter.
Edit: attached Mumble Overlay configuration

Same here, but I'm using Windows XP.
1.1.7 overlay works fine for me. :) Same settings as Anpu.

i do what znurre suggested, it works for me :)
mumble-overlay glxgears

Any idea why i see those boxes? It is related with Show User Textures option. (red box is me talking)
Other friends with same problem (RO vs 1.1.8 Mumble) can see overlay in glxgears perfect, while in RO nothing. So, we assume RO and Mumble 1.1.8 have problems (since with 1.1.7 works)?

Which Mumble you have? 1.1.8 or 1.1.7?

i use 1.1.8.0
i use 1.1.8.0
Can you post here in text or screenshot (like me) your Overlay configuration? Also, do you play in a windowed mode or full screen?

It might help the conversation a little if you could all post what your gfx card & drivers are. :D
I've found with ATi HD2600 and Catalyst it doesn't seem to work at all with RO, but it works perfectly with everything else. Haven't had any problems at all with nVidia in the laptop.
Yeah, here it goes:
CPU: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 2600+
GPU: ATI Radeon 9250 GE
Kubuntu 9.04 up-to-date
Kde 4.3
Driver: Mesa and stuff, posted here: http://www.regnumonline.com.ar/forum/showpost.php?p=171072&postcount=7
So far I found only 1 Win XP and one Linux user that have overlay working in RO and Mumble 1.1.8.
Still around 15 of us cannot make it work in Regnum, while works in glxgears.

If it's worth anything it works fine for me (Win7).
Edit: It also works in WinXP SP3 (Intel GMA 950 gfx)

Also for me, Windows XP tho, overlay doesn't work in Regnum
So there are like 3+ users who can see overlay with Mumble 1.1.8 in Regnum, and about 17+ of those who can't (but can in other programs).
I am confused. :cuac:

run mumble before you launch regnum that may fix it as thats how i do it
Edit: Anpu, sure ill make a screenie later

Yup, i do that always. Mumble first, then Regnum...
Still nada :(
Nor other friends managed to make it work. This mystery of "working at few, not working at others" is bugging me, because it works in other programs, except RO. Is it possible, by any chance, that it depends of Regnum settings (it should not be affected by that imo)?

Well that should go without saying.... If the overlay can't connect to Mumble when it starts up, it aborts completely.

The overlay works on all fullscreen programms I have tried, RTW, LOTR:BFME, W40K:DOW/DC/WC/SS...
I cant think what the Issue could be :s
I play in windowed mode only. Anyone else?

I can't get it to show up either windowed or fullscreen.
For those on Windows, if you must post, please include whether you're using OpenGL or DirectX renderer also.
EDIT:
I just twigged on something, actually. The OpenGL mumble overlay uses the GL shader engine to draw, which is exiting prematurely for any non-nVidia card thanks to the broken water shader.
EDIT, part two:
I just tested it with safe mode enabled and it seems that, indeed, it works for me in safe mode (ie. shaders disabled), but with shaders on it now actually causes a segfault (yay), presumably thanks to the non-writable shader instance and fglrx being shit.
So, I propose that anyone who is having problems with this try again in safe mode and post your results!
Cheers :)
Yeah, safe mode showed some progress regarding this matter. But safe mode sucks, and I want to play in normal mode and have mumble overlay working.
Also my overlay appeared same as on glxgears.
Any idea why?
(red one is me speaking, white one is other guy in channel, not speaking)
edit: works for some others in safe mode, but none want to play in safe mode, so this solution is no go. If few others can play normally with overlay, we should be able too.

I use Mumble 1.1.8 but as follows:
- First I start Mumble
- Then use a script to load a former mumble overlay library of Mumble 1.1.7 (LD_PRELOAD=<DIR_TO_LIBMUMBLE>/libmumble.so.1.1.7 ./rolauncher)
- It also works with the game binary (LD_PRELOAD=<DIR_TO_LIBMUMBLE>/libmumble.so.1.1.7 ./game <USERNAME> <PW_MD5HASH>)
As far as I know there are no dependencies between Mumble 1.1.8 and the overlay library and of course it works for me.
Some time ago I red in a post that since Mumble 1.1.8 the overlay is based on shaders and so at least for Nvidia cards and Regnum Online mumble-overlay didn't work for me. I cannot explain this very good but for those who like to see the post I refer to, here (http://regnum-forum.gamigo.de/showthread.php?t=7415) it is in German. This post also links to the older libmumble.so.1.1.7 for those who don't have it anymore.
I hope this helps some people.

I believe the red squares could be a texture bug in the drivers. Maybe upgrading Mesa will help (then again maybe not).
I wasn't suggesting safe mode as a solution, but it tells you a fair bit about what's happening. Regardless of mumble overlay, NGD need to fix their shader code, because it's quite wrong (there's even nVidia libCg usage in the shader definitions, who know what the actual code does !!)

I've gotten mumble 1.1.8 overlay working with most of the pretty graphics by following these ritual steps:
Start mumble. Make sure overlay is enabled in configs.
Start rolauncher. Enable safe mode before entering the game.
If you don't see the mumble overlay at the character selection screen:
Go back to mumble configs.
Disable the overlay and click apply.
Enable the overlay again and click apply.
Dance around your PC chanting weirdly for 5 minutes if the overlay still doesn't appear. Okay, not really, but you can't proceed until you get the overlay working.
Now that you can see the overlay in safe mode, exit the game and open up game.cfg in your base install directory. The default location is ~/regnum/game.cfg.
Make the following changes to the [video_graphics] section:
Append vg_force_safe_mode = 1
Enable/disable other graphics settings as you desire
Start the game directly (http://regnumonline.com.ar/forum/showthread.php?t=48064) so that rolauncher doesn't clobber your new game.cfg.
At this point you should have the overlay with your selected graphics settings:
http://i33.tinypic.com/14kh5bd.png
Unfortunately, you must repeat this entire ritual from the start whenever you restart your mumble client.
I'm on a Gentoo machine using an ATI Radeon HD 3100 with fglrx (x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.593).
