View Full Version : Limux Client Still Performs Poorly After 1.08

Ok, Hotfix 2 is now out, so i thought that i would try playing on linux again but i still get the same TERRIBLE performance that i have been getting since 1.08 launched.

1.07 and 1.08(in amun) i would get 50-75 FPS in both linux and windows:

!.08 went live and i now get between 15-50 FPS. It usually stays around 30. 30 USED to be playable for me with no choppiness, but the way it is now, even in the middle of nowhere, no other players around, no particles or anything, and im getting 50 fps, its still very very choppy.

I have not changed drivers, i have not changed hardware, and i have done nothing that would account for this being an issue. The only difference is that game is now 1.08.

I did use that CPU issue fix thinking that it may help there (deleting certain files and downloading them again). It did fix the CPU issue, but the game runs so poorly for me in linux that i must now log into windows >:( in order to play.

I know that there was some talk in irc about this issue when 1.08 first came out, but i am curios to know if other people still have this issue, and if not, what did you do to resolve it.

Thank you.

I still have the problem.

Things mentioned I tried:
Using 32 bit color depth which did not make any improvements for me.

Things mentioned i did not try yet:
Re-downloading all resources.

I cannot participate in war anymore on my linux desktop machine because the game is just too slow now all the time (1-6fps in war is not really fun).
I still can play on the laptop in windows (graphics card issues on linux there that I didnt fully try to resolve yet with an integrated intel graphics card) but I do not have access to the laptop as often as I maybe like.

Also one thing I noticed is that the positioning problems for warriors are much worse on the slow desktop machine as compared to the faster laptop even though both use the same internet connection and have therefore comparable pings (I even would say that the desktop machine should have a slightly lower ping). I cannot compare whether this issue is windows/linux related or slow/fast machine dependent but I tend to think of the latter.

I know my desktop system is fairly old and I cannot expect fluid gameplay with it but it is sad for me that I won't be able to join as often as I would like to now until I get a new system (and god knows what will happen when ngd 2.0 comes out.....).

hi,

did you try the workaround what i posted here?

there is something wrong with the resources!?!

you have to delete all sdb and idx files in the regnum-folder.

now regnum will install all files new and it works without laggs.

the game works much better... .

but the new rock textures are still a problem when i near them my fps drops massively.

I deleted the mentioned files once again and reloaded them.
Funny thing now:
sometimes my cpu runs at 1 Ghz and like 30-40% load on both cores and I have absolutely smooth gameplay.
But sometimes I get 100% load on both cores and very choppy.

This is the first time (since I started to play) I have my FPS dropped to constant 7-13 FPS. After this update, I am totally unable to play. I can stand at place, try to cast something, but can't even think on moving. Even on CS I get slideshow, wont even mention fights at samal.

I also tried to remove all dataX.sdb files and redownloaded all resources, but still no good. In current state, game is unplayable, and game requirements on website are lying. http://www.regnumonline.com.ar/index.php?l=1&sec=13

Just a question, everyone who is experiencing fps problems uses kde4?
I use, and i am having some problems after 1.08.

Yes i do. But seems like deleting sdb files helped little after a while. Now i m back to my golden 23 FPS

15 FPS max on Intel card here
And 25-30 max on Nvidia with 1,5 GB DDR3 memory.

Both with newest possible drivers/mesa/dri/drm - unplayable.

I have a Core2duo 6300 overclocked to 2,8Ghz(instead of 1,8Ghz) and a nvidia 8600gt. My fps with very few people are around 80 and can reach ~140 if i'm alone. Resolution 1200x900x16bits all on low except view on max. My Xoog is configured in 16bits too.
With +20 people on the screen my fps can drop to ~40 or less if more people. I think if people play with very low cost graphic card(like nvidia 7200,8200,9200, all below X(7,8,9)600) and very old CPU(like pentium 4, athlon XP...) you could not have a lot of fps.

I am using KDE 4.3 and I haven't got these problems.

Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz, 3MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB
4GB DDR2 RAM 800MHz
250GB HDD 7200RPM
NVidia GeForce 9650GT

Then how come I can get 50-60 fps on windows and be stuck with 12-20 on linux?

I don't know, maybe you need to change some config or update some packages. Previously i had a ATI graphic card with very bad perf under linux.
I don't know you hardware/software so i can't say now.

In fact, I've had the opposite. With a C2D @ 1.8GHz and a GeForce 8600M GT card I had worse performance than on a computer with a P4 and a 6600 GT.

Why is this? This old engine is, as far as I've understood, very CPU-heavy and doesn't really make good use of the GPU. Also, it doesn't make good use of multiple cores.
