You are Correct.


When the SDL fullscreen layer is active control (keyboard control specially i think) is taken away from your window manager (Gnome) and those hotkeys no longer work.

You can do this by playing in a fullscreen window. Edit your game.cfg (found in ~/regnum AND ~/regnum/live and look for the following settings:

vg_screen_height = 740
vg_screen_width = 1273


Those numbers reflect the resolution I use to play in a fullscreen window on a 1280x800 desktop. It fits perfectly above my bottom (and only) panel and fills the rest of the screen. You will have to tweek those numbers abit but it should give you the right idea.
