My wife and I switched to linux for school purposes. We like the game and try to play it. Every time we both try to login, only one client stays active while the other is disconnected. Is there a way we both could play together or is there some sort of countermeasure to prevent this? If so, could you let me know whats going on so we don't waste our time. Thanks.

You have to use 2 separate accounts to play. Are you trying to use the same account?
Are you using a router or firewall? To use 1 public IP address with many private IP address (192.168.x.x,172.16.x.x,10.x.x.x) you need to use NAT on the router or firewall. I have had 2 clients running with 1 public IP address so it does work.

nope, 2 totally different accounts. We are on a router/firewall. I will have to look into the NAT though, thanks for that advice.
edit: I didn't find any NAT configurations on my router, if you get around to it tyr, could you give a breif explination for it? Appreciate it.

My wife & I always play at the same time (linux clients too) though our config is a little more complex than most:
Broadband Router -> Linux Firewall Router (DMZ) -> 2 linux clients (Different Accounts)
We're running a stack of services at the same time too so you shouldn't have any problems with just the game.
Easiest setup is to make sure your Router is also the DHCP/DNS server and NAT Firewall. you shouldn't need to allow any incoming connections and both computers should be connected straight to the router or a switch that the router is connected to - et voila.
Things get more complex if one of your machines is the router :p

if this function is availiable for regnum you could try to choose the game port of regnum

well, as it sits now, we are both using different clients, both connected directly to the firewall router. we are using dhcp and from what I understand the router uses the NAT structure. I would logon, dink around for a bit, and everything works. The moment my wife connects, its like clock work, i will get disconnected. Everytime I connect afterwards, I'd play for about 30 seconds then get dropped. Her client never drops.
The thing I'm wondering though, is we are coming in as one ip address, so does the server have a regulation about multiple clients from one ip? Is there a way around it? We can both play Planeshift together just fine, its just Regnum doesn't seem to like us both on at the same time.
Edit: think I'll just give up on it. like the game but if its this much of a hassle to play online with the wife, then i'll find something else to play on.

I have played with my buddy many times when he brings his laptop to my house. We use the same connection. Me on linux, him on windows. Using DHCP. Same public IP address, but different local IP addresses. Regnum seems to have no limit on connecting from the same IP address.
You and your wife would obviously have different local IP addresses, right? I don't think it's possible not to. I'm not sure why you are having problems.

NAT (network address translation) involves re-writing the source and/or destination address of IP packets as they pass through a router or firewall. Routers/Firewalls using NAT do so in order to enable multiple hosts on a private network to access the Internet using a single public IP address.

try to find this section in your game.cfg in the live folder of regnum
sv_game_server_host = 212.214.41.27
sv_game_server_tcp_port = 48000
sv_retriever_host = 212.214.41.25
sv_retriever_port = 80
try changing the sv_game_server_tcp_port of one client to another port for example 49000..... If that does not work you have to unlock the port on your router.... for doing that check your routers manual, or tell us which router you use :)

giving it a shot, thank you for the port change config. will let you know what happens
The will not work. sv_game_server_tcp_port = 48000 is the port that the server is listening on not the port the client is sending on. If you change that the server will not respond to you as I’m sure NGD firewall is not open on any other ports but 80 and 48000.

I actually connected with the port change. my client stayed up and running a little bit longer but it eventually crashed. same problems. trying to come up with the sollution still. great game.
What is the manufacture and model of your router/firewall?

it's one of those wal-mart brand linksys, sub named network everywhere (except Regnum of course, single player action on this network only). It's pretty run of the mill stuff. I even tried to dmz my comp while she was on to avoid the firewall, same thing happens. New info into the problem. When we don't play with each other, or can't see each other, its fine. When we get close together, her toon freezes while I'm still moving on her screen. Breifly afterwards, I get disconnected. I'm starting to think something on the client side now. Any input?
