I'm crashing instantly after server selection without any known reasons.

I deleted my ro folder, some 15mb are loaded, crash again.
Tried safe mode.
Tried Horus and Ra.
Tried no sound.
Tried window and full screen mode.

Running Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit, gnome, openbox, nvidia GT 240M, 195.35.15 drivers.

-----------

ok, error found

mumble-overlay isn't working with rolauncher

I had not a single problem before the update and no crashes. Not even on Amun the day before.

Yep. I can second this issue (two instances on our clan forum). Disabling mumble-overlay fixed it.

I confirm that as well.

Is this some new anti-cheat-protection?

I use LD_PRELOAD with the game executable to preload an older version of libpng. This does not work anymore either. There seems to be a check about the game being called together with other processes.

Dunno if this is intended, but this is entirely wrong, LD_PRELOAD is a dynamic loader feature which has to be supported (it was until few days before 1.6 release).

It blocks many things to work, some have LD_PRELOAD set in their environment, without it to be related to RO.
Even an empty LD_PRELOAD causes the game to refuse to start.

Please restore normal behavior. It prevents too many things to work and is in no way a protection.

Mumble-overlay is broken, french keyboard hack is broken (this is a must-have for us since action bindings in RO is incomplete), and any other specific setup.

It may be a bug but i don't think, imho there is a specific and simple test against LD_PRELOAD env variable (if defined, bail out).

Most of the video capture tools are broken, too of course.

There is no official Linux support from NGD.
I would help you if I could, but I can't reproduce this problem.

I talked to Onemyndseye, and he did look at it.... he was going to post something on it, guess he forgot, or got to busy at work either way...

it is true the problem exists with LD_PRELOAD, and either NGD intentionally, or mistakenly broke this function. This is not good news for Linux users in the variaty of the ways that LD_PRELOAD is used in Linux based OSs. If they did it intentionally, i have no idea why, maybe it was to block a problem they have, but this is not the way to go about it. Either way, we are stuck with that problem until NGD fixes it, which is where the problem exists.

until they do, if you are using the Linux package built by Onemyndseye, after installation, just use the launcher script in the RO folder, you will just have to do without Mumble Overlay (that NGD worked so hard to implement :ohill:), and without recording programs either, but it will launch RO without crashing.

Hope this helps, and if i mis-relayed any of this information incorrectly, sorry... Onemyndseye is the Linux guru, i am just a linux noob xD

One could also set "MUMBLE_OVERLAY=0" in /etc/default/regnum-online and continue to launch RO as normal.

example: /etc/default/regnum-online

## Default settings for the regnum-online package
##

#### Use mumble overlay *** edit here ***
MUMBLE_OVERLAY=0

### use MALLOC_CHECK for Regnum Online
MALLOC_CHECK_=1

### Location for Regnum Online data directory. Running user
### MUST own this directory and have read/write access. For
### this reason the default is ~/regnum. Other examples
### are: ~/games/regnum, ~/apps/regnum
##
RO_USER_DATA=~/regnum

I also see in this thread (http://regnumonlinegame.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59350) that users are reporting GLC and Yukon to be working since the last hotfix so perhaps this issue is closed

take a lookt at this ugly buggy bug :

http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/1937/capturefentresansnom.png (http://img696.imageshack.us/my.php?image=capturefentresansnom.png)

I have to fall down in shader model 2.0 to avoid this.

I'm on ubuntu 9.10, C2D 3Ghz, ati HD 4870, driver 8.67. 4, rendR 1.2, OpenGL 2.1.9116

ati catalyst 10.3 solve the issue :)
but there is a bug in the installer of the driver, so if anyone want install it and have trouble install it, post here i'll help.

Well! If there's a bug in ati catalyst driver, I would like to know since I can't get my regnum client work properly under shader 4.0!! Thanks in advance

In the ubuntu installer, not the driver.
can't find a lib when i tried. I had to extract the installer, and add a link like ln -s on that lib name xxx.so.1.0 to xxxxx.so.1

Sodamngood

Could you please tell me which library is that!?

G-rom

from the folder you extracted the installer :

ln -s arch/x86/usr/X11R6/lib/libfglrx_gamma.so.1.0 arch/x86/usr/X11R6/lib/libfglrx_gamma.so.1

if you re on 64bit I suppose you ll have to replace x86 by x86_64.
and yeah it's in arch folder because all libs arent copied in all distr. folders.
