'There was an error patching the game'

Hi,

I commonly get problems as NGD puts in updates.

I'm running Windows VISTA.


This time, I'm being told 'There was an error patching the game'

Any thoughts?

Seems to be working now (3 hours later).


That seems to be the pattern, but it would be nice to know 'why' so I can deal with iy in future.


If you have any ideas, please let me know. Checked firewalls in AV and in windows firewall before I posted the first message, so it wasn't that,

It could possibly be just because of the sheer number of people getting on the server at that time, it really slows it down and likely that's the cause of your inability to connect.

This problem can also be caused by your firewall, after some updates ie client ones, as the client changes the firewall sees it as a new risk and blocks it till you allow it again.

It just started working again for no apparent reason. I'm leaning towards a firewall problem, though not through my computer but through my server.

New patch (version 1.6.1), and a return to the same problem!


If it follows previous patterns, it will persist for a day or two, then mysteriously disappear.

My only coherent thought is that I'm logging in from China, and the government server based firewall is blocking patching. If this is true, it doesn't explain why it suddenly allows it after a day or so though.

Can it be due to volume of people trying to update?

If anyone has any wise ideas, please let me know... it'll help me stop talking to myself :)

I can tell you without doubt that it does not have to do with simply China, I'm not sure what your ISP is, but logging in is just fine for me, patching was smooth, and the update runs perfectly within 20 minutes. That won't help much but know that it is not China doing something funny as far as I can tell.

Maybe not China as a nation, but I think it might be related to server based firewall.

It would be quite flattering if the whole nation of China decided to slow down my Regnum progress though... xD
