It seems that Battle.net is going to start forcing all users to use only their real names, which are then linked to Facebook profiles if they have one.
They claim it is an attempt to stop the epic trolling which is happening there. In some ways, I think this is a good idea, as people will think twice before posting anything, knowing that anyone can then know exactly who they are.

Its really easy to create another email and facebook account.
Because this is a war based game unlike WoW, some people take the hatred they share for thier enemies on the battlefield out of the game and real-life so i would prefer to have your real life identification remain personal unless you chose to reveal it.
Ive played a mmorpg where your forum name was your real name. People who didnt like this found ways around this easily

I dont know if you have ever played WoW, but it gets very personal and sometimes scary, even over simple things like gear, or not throwing the right guy a heal during a raid.
The RO community is VERY civil compared to WoW. To be honest I feel a lot safer here >.>

I agree. If someone preferably likes to stay anonymous it should bepossibe for him/her.
This is quite possibly the worst idea anyone has ever thought about. It's not going to work for Regnum and it certainly won't work for WoW. Just having a look around the WoW forums, you do get the feeling that there is a lot of hate simmering there.

Type in your name, or someone else's name. You'll be surprised, I guarantee it.
I have opted out of the RealID for WoW (disabled all the features). Will we be able to opt out for the fourms, too? If not, this is a serious breech of trust on Blizzards part. I dont want my real name used. I dont want someone pissed at me for my opinion tracking me down in real life, because lets face it, there ARE some crazy folks out there and if Bliizard goes through with this, then they are responsible if someone does do something crazy.
If it does go through, I will have to rethink if playing World of Warcraft or Starcraft II will be worth the extra exposure. Right now, I am thinking no. There are other options. LOTRO looks really pretty and is going F2P soon, and Star Wars The Old Republic is also coming soon too.
Even on facebook, I have everything set to friends only and locked down as far as I can go. I value my privacy and dont want Blizzard to share it with the world because they are trying to emulate Congress by NOT paying attention to what the public wants, and going ahead with something that will destroy the country anyways.

My solution: post less on WoW forums. Post more on RO forums.

I suspect we will see many trolls called 'Chuck Norris' and the like on the wow forums before long :p

Ahhhh lets see, So if we arent able to opt out of the forums, they will change the user name without consent?

I walked out to get my mail today and Rasta jumped out of the bushes, knocked me down, and ran away as fast as he could with Angelina Jolie right behind him. She smacked me, I knocked her down and he totally ditched her there on the ground. Btw she really has let herself go, talk about a troll...
He really *is* everywhere.
He found me, somehow. I don't have a myspace or a facebook or anything like that but he still managed to track me down--you're probably next on his list <.<
Stay vigilant people!

Or worse, enter other people's names.
