Hi everyone!

Occasionally rises magically ping 1-2k, then this low and stays green. It happens every 3 minutes approx.

It's like the game loose the connection with the server often. I say this because the percentage of packet loss increases too.

This problem, in the same laptop, but playing regnum on Win7 does not happen.

I have reinstalled the driver of wireless (thinking in a error of comunication with my router) but the problem continues.

Thank for your help :).

As a general rule, dropped connection on wireless can often mean either the router or the network chip in the laptop are overheating. If you ping another site (such as a newspaper) in the same area where the RO servers are located -- that would probably be Argentina? -- does it show the same problem?

Can you connect to the router by cable to see if the problem goes away?

Finally, do you have a network monitor installed to see if the dropped connections correlate with the amount of data sent/received?

Thanks for your help :). Well...

Can you connect to the router by cable to see if the problem goes away?

I have connected my laptop directly to my router across of a cable, and the problem disappears :sifflote:.

Finally, do you have a network monitor installed to see if the dropped connections correlate with the amount of data sent/received?

I have been monitoring the connection through my conky and doing ping to regnumonline.com.ar in parallel while I play regnum. I can see easily like the traffic decreases to 0 K/b, only for one second, and increased time to receive a package from regnumonline.com.ar (via ping).

So, I guess that my problem is on my wireless driver. For this reason, I tried installing three different modules in my Arch: b43, bradcom-wl and ndiswrapper. But I get the same problem with all them :S.

Indeed xD, my network card is:

Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g (rev 01)

I am puzzled, because on Win7 this does not happen =/... I don't know what to do.

I don't know much about that chipset, other than what I just googled. It seems it's an older Dell laptop that isn't too well supported? There's a thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5456980 on the Ubuntu forums, but the last entry is two years old, and it may not even be relevant for you, using Arch. Have you done a search in the Arch forums?

Of course, the easiest solution would be to run RO cabled...

I used the ndiswrapper module yesterday, all the time, and I saw an important improve. So, I guess that I will use this module for a long time :).

The strangest thing is that the b43 module worked for me perfectly a few months ago...

Anyway, you have helped me a lot :). Thanks you my friend!

Sorry i didnt see this sooner.. I desipse the b43 drivers with a passion and have had intermitten issues with them since atleast Hardy... It has led be to replace all my wireless chipsets with Intel Pro or Atheros chipsets

As an experiment I utilized a wireless access point to make the connection from my laptop to my router. That is, I am not using my laptop's wireless chipset. Instead, I am using the ethernet connection in conjuction with external hardware. What I have found is that my laptop is running about 5 °C cooler and the crashes are all but gone (crashed once since taking this route). I will obviously continue to test to ensure this is not a fluke.

Since my last post I have continued experimenting with the wireless access point configuration. My graphic card temperatures are consistently 6-7 °C cooler than if I am using my laptop's wireless chipset. Additionally, I have crashed no more than once or twice, which is a substantial improvement.

Yes,

Wifi cards use alot of power which generates loads of heat in more ways than one. They also are prone to packet loss - which will inturn make the RO client crash (or any online game for that matter)
