Westboro Baptist Church Burns the Koran

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war??? Nope CNN, FOX, MSNBC and Al Jazeera didn't bother to report it. The hypocrisy boggles my mind.

This thread confuses me.
Yes the pasture decided not to burn the Quran.
But others who thought it was right still went along and burned them.
Its like if the Pope decided to stop going to church,
Others would not stop with him.
I'm not religious, but even I know the Westbro Baptist church is filled with crazies. Them burning it is no surprise at all.
And I'm glad they didn't report on it in the end.
It would have just given those people what they want, attention.

It was a bad idea really. Some Muslims wrote me an angry letter saying that I was stealing their prophets.

Rofl @ "we the Prophets of God at WBC" and that fucking song at the end O.O
I don't very often talk about my faith and this kind of crap is usually why.
I am of one belief as a... well not a christian because the church mandates are hypocritical but as someone who believes in God and Jesus Christ. That as long as you can look on yourself with a non biased eye and say "I have been a good person, in this life" then you will enter the afterlife in peace and enter the kingdom of heaven. I believe this applies to ALL men and women be they Gay, Muslim, Jew, Black whatever, As long as they can look upon themselves and say "I am a good person" then it doesn't matter what they do in their lifestyle, or even if they believe or not.
However (and yes i am getting to my point) I know that:
I DO NOT SPEAK FOR GOD
not once did i say anything like "God does this..... God thinks that..... I am a Prophet etc."
That is the fundamental flaw with the word of man speaking for God even the bible itself can be viewed as flawed as it too was written by man (people will say it is the word of God written down by man but man lies period) I'm surprised no one found it funny Jesus does not have a book in the Bible.
To express your belief is fine you can say what the fuck you want if its opinion or a belief as i have in the top of this post it harms no one and even if it is offensive the most it incurs is anger and pity.
But to say that God hates gays and Muslims and Jews also to BURN another s belief is wrong bigoted and down right retarded. There are other organizations like this WBC who claim they do Gods will, The KKK, Nazi's, The Crusades (not as glamorous as one would think purging natives from their home land because to you its holy and then making the ones who stayed worship YOUR way)
It's people like this turning people from the Churches and tbh i think its a damned good thing they are turning away from bullshit like that.
You do not need a church its a glorified club for the fearful.
Jesus was a Jew and God did not hate his son.
I am never gonna say CATEGORICALLY that god loves or hates all of us i have never spoken to God and i don't think i will and don't let anyone else tell you what to think about God but yourself.
As you might have gathered i get a little hot under the collar when people oppress others views because their own are the "right" ones. This whole Qur'an burning crap got me real ratty
I am soooo gonna stop now before someone gets the Jesus Freak brand out.

Jesus Freak? Lol. I love that song. dc Talk, FTW! :D
I'm a Christian, and I gotta say that this whole Qu'ran burning thing was just ridiculous. Most Christians view this as a horrible thing. It's just like a Muslim burning the Bible. It's all a matter of respect, in my opinion. Some people are a little extreme in their views, I hope that they will eventually see the error of their ways.
I don't really see why the whole Qu'ran burning thing even came up... because of the Mosque/Cultural Center being built near the WTC site? That's just ridiculous. They can build where and what they want. I'm tired of people using religion as a way to justify hatred towards other faiths... it's just not right.
...just my two cents. :)

If there were a god I would think he would not like humans much. Any powerful deity would be insulted by our collective ego, I would think. We think of ourselves as the master species on this planet. If god went to all the trouble of creating all these species why would he care most for the one that is destroying all of it left and right?
Religion tries to define that which cannot be defined. I could claim that God is a Jello Pudding Pop and provide exactly as much evidence as any religion can for their beliefs.

If there is a God, atheism must seem to him a less of an insult than religion.
I am an atheist and I find it funny because when people ask why I am an atheist I usually banter away that a religion's God is an atheist. In the different religious books there is no power higher than themselves for them to believe in, they control their own destiny and follow their own rules.
So when I usually am told by a more fundamentalist member of any religious group that I am going to a nice fiery place because of the way I live my life, I usually retort with: wouldn't that be hypocritical? Not the most intellectual argument, but trying to get into conversations about Pascal's wager, Hume's Problem of Evil or Kant's moral argument of categorical imperatives is usually a show stopper.
My thoughts about the Koran burning is that there are people who all have different opinions. To borrow a concept from the movie Dogma, since we are dealing with beliefs rather than ideas - it is never going to be simple or have an easy resolution. It is easy to change your mind, but harder to change a belief.
Is a christian church denouncing Islam for failing to accept Jesus Christ and following a false prophet by burning the Koran any different from a Muslim decreeing a Christian is a non-believer and burning a bible? Both have happened throughout history. So why is it important now? With as many fundamentalist organizations that we have in the world, doing anything is going to piss someone off somewhere. So does that mean you should do it or should you weigh the consequences and proceed from there?
So if Fox, CNN, or any other main stream news outlet does not report it as a top story then who cares. I really don't think it is that news worthy, especially if you view those organizations as representatives of different political bodies who are coming up for re-election shortly.

When i first read about this in the news I wondered what exactly they hoped to achieve by this ignorant act of hatred? Im sure the parties involved are aware that moslem children as young as the age of 5 are taught to memorize the entire Quran. i have at least dozen moslem friends who are able to recite the entire Quran on command from any point.
The Quran is more than just a book and burning every copy on the planet is not enough to get rid of the words in it and the way of life its created.

At the risk of Wes bitching I just copy/paste everything xD
I want you to know, when it comes to believing in god- I really tried. I really really tried. I tried to believe that there is a god who created each one of us in his own image and likeness, loves us very much and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize...something is FUCKED-UP. Something is WRONG here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is NOT good work. If this is the best god can do, I am NOT impressed. Results like these do not belong on the resume of a supreme being. This is the kind of shit you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude. And just between you and me, in any decently run universe, this guy would have been out on his all-powerful-ass a long time ago.
[George Carlin, from "You Are All Diseased".]
What I also hate is different faiths always say "my god!" Like there is a difference. Its the same god its the(Judeo)-Christian god... Same for Islam,Christianity and Judaism. Its just exegesis and interpretation. Although personally they are wasting their time cause there is no god.

I have science, observation, experimentation, argument, debate and empirical thought on my side. You have a book.
Faith is just belief without evidence. I cant do that sorry. If there was a god that demanded to be worshipped. It would be my duty to overthrow him. I worship nothing and nothing deserves to be worshipped.
I also respect your beliefs albeit I feel a bit sorry for you.

Here we go... Yet another flamewar. There's not enough evidence to prove or disprove the existence of zero or more gods. So far, the best answer I got was that the only one who could really know the existence of a god was a god itself. If we define god as the supreme being, then all our attempts to verify the facts are doomed to be kinda f*cked up.

I see no flame war just cause its a difficult discussion it doesn't have to descend into yelling at each other every time.
In any case everybody is entitled to their opinion.
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. Voltaire

A supreme being, or perhaps a messenger of a supreme being, came to me in a dream. They said nothing of who they were, or where they came from. They came simply to pass on what they believed to be a very important message. It was this:

Yes. In fact, I was going to comment on that, but I repented to do so because I deemed it offtopic and lacking of any constructive value to this conversation. Yet, I find it amusing and deserving of a thread on its own, as it is a curious observation about the constructs of the English language.

Depending on what tiles are already in play, that scrabble draw is awesome except for its lack of x's, z's and q's.
