Hi!

Finally! We ported Regnum to MacOSX!

You can download it from here: http://www.regnumonline.com.ar/index.php?l=0&sec=6

There are two installers available: LITE (only includes the launcher, 3mb) and FULL (launcher + data files, 906mb)
None of them includes the game binaries as we expect to patch them frequently on this stage.

This is an experimental version. We don't have many Macs here so test it so we are releasing it to get all the possible feedback about any remaining technical issue. Some things may be broken or not work correctly but the game should be 100% playable.


Known issues:
- Sound is unstable and causes random crashes.

As always NGD Studios is doing big things! You guys started off this year excellent! :)

I don't have a MAC personally but this will indeed help Regnum Online appeal to a larger userbase on Windows, Linux and now on MAC!

I have a ATI, RadeonHD2600 and I'm getting random crashes you mentioned the sky, I'm going to try to set it to hide the sky in the config to see if that helps.

Is there anything else we can do to help you guys fix the bugs?

One minor thing, I can escape the NGD intro movie.

At this point I'm not sure there's a problem on our GL code (it's exactly the same as in Windows/Linux) or there's a problem with Mac GL drivers.

MAC still use OpenGL 2*1 and that error its due OS System....it's bad signal send to CPU...ive got that error on Star Wars FU....and fixed that copyng fron SL DvD Rosetha folder over pc one.....sory i give you more details when i will be home...wroting from phone now..

Can you get me more info? (Like mac model, video card, if you started in window/fullscreen, etc) (or post your log.txt)

So my crash problem seems to be a sound issue. I turned off sound and music and played for about an hour without a crash. I then turn sound back on killed a few mobs, it was going okay but when I got in range of someone on a horse I crashed.

I was playing in window mode.

Sorry for my slow feedback ..i work in same time like Surak :)

Using Nvidia card and IMac.

Snow Leopard 10.6.3

Hmm i made lots of tests :

I had no crashes doring gameplay but performance between menu and game play are like 1/4.
For example: if in menu i had 160 fps in gameplay i had 35-40 fps.

Anyway works good on shader 2.0 and fixed pipelines..around 35-60 fps ,its a decent play.
I had no crashes yet.

Also eat lots of cpu usage...i don't saw in any another aplication ,even Final Cut or Autodesk Maya to eat so much...but maybe this its good think.

Videos from this link i recomand you to use right-click and ->save as...seems quick time plugins don't resize correctly video size.

I will update this link once at 24 hours with new tests and logs ...i have no time this week to play much...you can veryfie in each day for feedback..

Ahh, yes. Mac GL drivers are very picky.. Much more picky than Linux or Windows drivers..

Sound effects and music both work. After selecting my character, I'll be in the world and I can hear sounds. About 15 seconds later, the game will crash. I've reproduced this twice, the crash log is the same.

If look on my crash logs are same with Plover.Crash of OpenAL....With sound turned of not one crash yet.

Disabling sound has stopped it crashing after 10 seconds on my machine (quad-core iMac) and the latest updates have got a decent framerate, but archer guards (and some other characters) only have a head and weapon :S

Hmm NPC look ok for me.
But no changes of frame rate.
-Fixed pipeline around 50 fps
-Shader 2.0 around 40 fps
-Shader 3.0 around 25-30 fps
-Shader 4.0 constant 1 frame at 3 sec :)) unplayeble yet.

Sound still crashing...i cant figur that make OpenAL to crash...

snd_safe_mode seems to have fixed it. Been in game for a few minutes now with music on/effects on, and no crashes.

Other small issues I've noticed:

When running if you drag left mouse to change the camera, the camera doesn't adjust smoothly (it does if standing still though)
On a 2nd display, right mouse dragging to turn doesn't work. When calculating the initial mouse offset you need to check which NSScreen the game window is currently on (so the initial drag offset is 0, not first_screen_width).
If you drag right mouse to turn, and then release, the game will visually show your mouse but it won't allow it to move for a split second. This makes it difficult to turn and then select something.

Other small issues I've noticed:


If you drag right mouse to turn, and then release, the game will visually show your mouse but it won't allow it to move for a split second. This makes it difficult to turn and then select something.


With selection i have troble too...very hard to click something...

It's fixed.

Also its fixed seems launcher window initial position :)
Was a bit anoyng when started in corner of screen :)...
Good job.

Also when i crashed yestarday cose of sound i runed game with this setting:
snd_max_channels = 32
snd_safe_mode = 1

Maybe this cosed my crash..i will retry today on normal settings.
And if all ppl that usual had more crashes like me works i hope it was only my fault cose of that crash and this it's fixed :)

Yup seems it was conf fault ...i chaged back to :

No, I have to say it is a *lot* more stable after the latest patches. Sadly it now crashes just when things get exciting... you know, in the middle of a battle you finally knock your opponent over, hit Southern Cross and it crashes mid-swing. :(

did you enable weapon trails? If weapon trails is enabled the RO client crashs in some cases very often. I play RO on Linux with a ATI card.

It's not about crashes...it's about FPS :))...25 fps on shader 3.0 wile standing and 2-3 fps in war..forced me to use this settings...

It's the same OpenGL engine on all platforms, I don't think it can be tweaked much more.

Unless there are hidden Apple GL tricks I don't know yet (?)

Ah so this can be fault cose they still use OpenGL 2.1?
Star Wars and Assasins creed works lots more smooth ..but maybe cose engine are diferent and are oflline games.

its not crashing frequently at all - i've had 2 per day.

More consistent is the corruption to some npcs and players, who are displayed typically as just a hat and weapon. The guard at samal save is always like this.

Not sure how to help you debug that though!

Yup...at low graphics detailes i never have crashes if i close sound...sound crash once at few hours......
But if i use highter graphics detailes i have that crash with Engine 3D and this one it's first time.

I tested client on my macbook unibody and it works ok.

I just noticed that french keyboard is ok when i type in chat box but keymapping is wrong (qwerty and mine is azerty) for binding keys in menu options, nothing important really but just so you know ....

I re-downloaded the client a couple hours after my first failed attempt - and all is good. It installed without issue:

Usual crashes are related to OpenAL..Not another crashes even on shader 2.0,3.0. On 4.0 fixed 1 fps can't play.But seems you improved performances(?).Now on fixed pipelines my fps grow up from 40-50 fps to 80-90 fps.Or is related from my upgrade...upgradet from 10.6.3 to 10.6.6

I can't seem to get it to load, it turns back off right away with an error before any kind of launcher or update process. I know this is sort of an alpha version at best though.

I can't seem to get it to load, it turns back off right away with an error before any kind of launcher or update process. I know this is sort of an alpha version at best though.

I'm not that familiar with testing programs. What I previously posted was the entire crash report (that it wants in theory to send to Apple for some reason). I even enabled developer-level crash reports using OnyX and it was still the same short message.

In case this was not the kind of crash report that was needed, also I opened the console and this is what was listed when the program crashed. Although afterward it doesn't seem like what you asked about.

Three Mac Client gameplay issues:

1. When holding down W to move forward, holding down Right-Mouse click to look around stutters. It's almost as if the Mac client is processing every key repeat (from holding down W) instead of just responding to the key press down event.

2. When playing in Window mode and you Command-Tab to another window, the character begins to run left. This is reproduceable about 80% of the time. On occasion, I can successfully Command-Tab to another window without affecting my character.

3. Not so much of a technical issue, but gameplay on a MacBook Pro is very difficult when you have to switch quick bars. You have to hold down the Function key and reach to F1/F2/F3/F4. As as work-around I go into Apple; System Preferences; Keyboard and check "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys". Stil a better solution would be if we could custom map quickbar keys.

Compliments on the new Mac Client. Its stable for me, although a bit hard to play so far.

BTW, when will we know when new/updated Mac Clients are released? On this thread? I didn't see any release log on the download page.

One more quick detail:

On #1, holding down a key, this is also true when you hold down 'v' to see health bars. (I'm a healer). Makes war impossible unfortunately. :-(

If you go into System Preferences; Keyboard and set your "Key Repeat Rate" to the lowest setting, the stutter is reduced by alot but still exists.

Okay, I just downloaded it for my MAC and it installed without a problem, but whenever I go to open and play the game it immediately crashes without opening the game. Is there any way I can fix this? I really want to play....

That depends of your connectors.

Usual i play on HDMI and plasma TV using smaller resolution than Desktop one.
For example if my desktop settings are 1080 pp my windowed will be 720 pp(1280x760).because if you play in windowed and Ro resolution will be same with your desktop will not feet entire.

Try to redownload the game.Reinstall him.(you can use Firefox with DownThemall addon for faster download.)
If he crash,press button "Report",and there will show up a log.
In that log you will see something like :

Specs of your mac...etc

Thread 3 crashed...scroll down now...

Thread 1 :some code
Thread 2 :some code
Thread 3 crashed ..some code...-->copy and paste the code from here in the forum...

Also copy-paste here specs of your mac from crash log.

But after don't send to apple the report just close report.

Also a question for Surak:The game use build in OpenAL dylib or system's dylib ? I downloaded from official site OpenAL and installed ,and had no more crashes (yet)..and made this just before you made the upgrade on server...so can't tell you if was a fix.

I usually play with an external mouse but tonight I tried with my MacBook Pro built-in touchpad and it crashed :-(

I believe it crashed once I used dual-touch. I attempted to zoom by pinching the touchpad.

I attempted to attach the crash report but got:

In OS X it recognizes it but only show fixed pipeline and shader 2. In windows 7 the options are the same but shows as "not supported"(tested both on Macbook and Dell notebook).

I have very low fps in shader 2 compared to fixed pipeline on both machines. My old Thinkpad T61 with NVIDIA runs better than both in shader modes. This is a problem with Intel Drivers or Regnum support for Intel graphics?

Also, in shader 2 on Mac I cannot see the head and hands from models.

Having to use a laptop to play which is awkward to set up.

I'm sure you can find some users with a mac willing to help out, I doubt I possess the know-how though myself.

Try to delete your RO.app and all file include and perform other new installation.For me works good.

I'm getting the same error as the other poster. Exactly which file do I need to delete? I've tried deleting only RegnumOnline.app and then re-installing, but that doesn't work. I've tried downloading a new copy of the installer (thinking that there was a newer version), but I get the same result.

The game ran perfectly for a few days. That's the odd thing.

i'm also having the same problem. in the beginning it worked fine but then after i lost my connection (after having my mac on sleep) the textures on my character did not work and then after that i got this same error (can't create file) i have tried every thing possible but it won't start :ohill:

How did you get to it say what resources where downloading? (never mind you just mouse over the download bar)

Also Amun works, so I'm guessing its a problem of where the clients is trying to download the resources from.

I re installed Regnum and it still isn't working, I get this when I try to play.

default location of download must be /Users/your user/Downloads.

default location of instalation must be /Users/your user/Application/RegnumOnline

Yes i know a bit wierd...default path it's not /Application and installer don't let you know...maybe ad a info in installer splash screen ..."RegbunOnline will be installed in /Users/your user/Applications/" ? :)not so hard to doit :)

I even opened the package contents and ran the raw Unix Executable File through my Terminal and I got this error message:

Reinstall..same error....

Anyone who had trouble running the game on MacOSX 10.5.x should try this version.

Hmm... downloaded new installer. Loaded game just fine, but was unable to click on any of the buttons to actually enter the game world when I was at the character screen. I exited the game and tried again, but it hangs on the login screen right after I enter my password and the program is no longer responsive.

Tried once more, had a fiddle and it works.
There were two applications named ROlauncher one of which located /Users/(Username) in a folder titled "SelfUpdate" contained within a folder "regnum".
The other was located in /Users/(Username) but not in the folder "regnum".

I solved the issue of it crashing just after clicking enter game world by putting the second ROlauncher inside the regnum file and then running the other ROlauncher - which I'm assuming was an update patcher.
After it had finished, the application closed and I ran the second ROlauncher again within the regnum file and I was able to play.

Sounds works.
Music works.
Controls are somewhat unresponsive and turning the camera angle or the faced direction using the cursor is very inconsistent in performance - sometimes it turns smoothly other times it's slow and will turn only certain degrees, as if it has a massive frame drop.
Shader Model 2.0 does not work.
Fixed Pipeline works.
Once or twice a few objects have not loaded fully.

I'm not sure if these issues are the fault of the program or my own OSX as it's a somewhat old model (Intel GMA 950) but overall Regnum is working, it's not exactly playable but it is at least opening and running.

I hope some of this helps, I look forward to playing properly on my mac :).

You should have a "ROlauncher" executable. Try to find it with spotlight. Right now I'm at work, but yesterday I was able to play fairly well with the new update.

Something weird with fps.Not a bad thing but weird :)))
On shader 3.0 with antialiasing 1X,Anistropic 1X,lowered video settings a have around 45 fps.

If i max all settings at 16 x anistropic,4x antialiasing ,max distance terrain details view,hardware skining ,max texture details,..etc etc i lose only 4-5 fps and runs at ~37-40 fps...

Also got a crash during autorun and tryng to start screen flow to record...

Hmm seems only shadow lower lots my fps....if enable shadows lowers till 12 fps...but at least works with others details at full :))))not bad at all :)))

This is happening every time, its like the patcher isn't downloading the patch at all... btw i get no error, the launcher just doesn't relaunch, just bouncing on my dock till it disappears.

fix this problem just by placing the launcher inside the Regnum folder. now it launches fine, loads into game and everything, but as soon as I choose a realm it crashes. please help

fixed the crash. Im on a MBP late 2007, with a 8600m GT. Im running at lowest settings. I can have all settings at max without a crash as long as shadows are off. I've have noticed this in a lot of mac ports. Shadows and post fx seems to be bugged without direct X

You can disable weapons trails and beam.
This will lower your crash rating.It's a common issue for OGL engine seems on linux and mac.

I've still got those on, Im running with almost no crashes at this point even with sound. I have found though that if I have textures any higher than half i crash in larger battles or towns. When I checked the log i was having a memory dump error. Is this due to the game client running in the same instance as the launcher? Not a problem I'll just roll with the lower textures at 60 fps :D

Try to repair permissions using disk utility

With a clean MAC OS X for sure will work.You have some kext that not work correctly.

Anyway i always use multi partition,because if something works wrong to be able to reinstall my OS X without losing data.

And as general to improve RO general performance,use shader 20. or 3.0 with shadows disabled,weapons trails and beams disablead(will lower rate of crashes),also resolution,dont use HD resolution for play,use max 1024x768.Close any kind of Torrent client to avoid lag and browsers.Browser's plugins java/flash player can eat over 1Gb of RAM memory.

Had a few troble after new hotfix...after auto download last hotfix..icon bumping and quit.
Needit to entire remove old instalation folder ,redownload and reinstall the game.

But after reinstall got screen resize troble...my mac resolution was set at 720i resolution and game client at 1024x 768...whats happened?...look at screen record :))))

And it worked! As simple as that, just put your 'secured' function off on your 'user (home)' folder and it's done. Now i'm going to spend some time exploring the game. Thanks for the help!

There are 2 related bugs and I think I've found the solution to them (running nm -m on the game executable basically confirms you're using the function in question).

Bug #1 Steps to reproduce:
1) Drag right mouse to turn character
2) Release right mouse while the mouse is still moving.
Behavior:
The cursor will "hang" on the screen for a moment, when it should actually begin moving smoothly. I did some sleuthing and it looks like you (Surak) are using the CGWarpMouseCursorPosition function from CoreGraphics to "halt" the mouse on-screen during the drag. If you look right below this function in CGRemoteOperations.h there's the following function: CGAssociateMouseAndMouseCursorPosition. If you call this and pass false when the drag starts, and true when the drag is over, it'll accomplish the same thing as using CGWarpMousePosition, but it won't overflow the event queue :) I've tested it on my own program (which happened to have the same bug) and it fixes the behavior :)

Bug #2 Steps to reproduce:
1) While running drag the right mouse to turn your character
2) Turning may be VERY "choppy"
Diagnosis:
I'm pretty sure this problem will go away if you fix bug #1, because there won't be drag events getting dropped from CoreGraphic's event queue :)

PS There's a 3rd bug; It looks like Regnum is expecting scroll events' deltaY to be in line numbers, but they're not. This causes scrolling to be really slow, and switching the quickbars to not work. If you multiply the NSEvent's deltaY by 16.0f (or some typical line height) it fixes the issue :) (confirmed fix with mach_inject)

in those 16 crashes I think I tried disabling various things - but I did it at runtime, rather than in config, so I'm not 100% sure.

Is that the recommended setting then?

No trackpad. Do use a 'magic mouse' though. Perhaps the problem is common to both....

It's an event handling issue, it surely can be caused by multiple input devices.

Can you try to reproduce it in the version I just uploaded to AMUN?

That does indeed seem to cause it to crash on Horus, and I couldn't get it to crash doing it on the new Amun release.

I have an old powerbook g4 in my closet to help with testing ^.^, but I doubt there'd be more than 1 actual user on ppc.


On the other hand, you'd earn a ton of respect from us techies if your entire regnum codebase was endian safe. Go for it!

I'm not sure if there's an official place. However, Adium posts participating user's OS version (and some other machine info). For context, Adium is a very popular IM client for OSX.

To summarize their graphs,

This is due to network code/server/or even your network provider.
You can try to traceroute to server.
Server IP adress you can find in game.cfg if you open with textedit.app.
You have traceroute on network utility.And to see if you have any troble with any node.
Close any kind of torrent client before begin to play also.

Tested a few minuts a go Amun....i had no issues with my Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and Nvidia card ,shader 2.0 ,720p resolution.on 20 minuts of gameplay not a crash.But was empty and wasnt able to test in war situation.

As a bug or ?!? just downloadet the client from web page,installed because i had no more on my Mac...the issue is:
-The games is installed in a folder /Users/$USER/Application.
The game create 2 folders named Live : one in /Users/$USER/Applications/RegnumOnline and one in /Applications.
Resources are downloadet in /Applications/Live and not in /Users/$USER/Applications/RegnumOnline/Live...se the screenshot.

Please fix the path where he download resource.

Hi, I'm asking if anybody here uses the Mac client to play on the gamigo servers, specifically Muspell and Niflheim. I know a friend who has a mac and wants to play Regnum on it, but he can't login with his gamigo account, it says invalid. He can only access Horus and Raven, I guess using his GameSamba account.

Uhhh just bought a new ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB of GDDR5 for my MAC Pro...uhhh works awesome :D

And noticed one think:
-in full screen mode works with around 150-180 fps(may vary)
shader 2.0 low details,no wepoans trails/beams.
-in windowed around 50 fps

So for the people that play in a mac...maybe switching from windowed mode to full screen maybe can help.

Also on HDMI mode with 720pp resolution fps drop till 80 fps.

That noticed also your code works better with ATI cards...no more graphics gliches.

In a few days i will upgrade to OS X Lion and i will give you a feedback :)))
Still i have troble with PayPall..i hope in a few days they fix that and i will buy Lion to make tests :)

Can you tell your MAC specs please?

To have permanent chages on your graphics details change them before chose server to login from options(top of login windows)-> advance options.
Try more options:
-Fixed pipeline-very low quality of image but more FPS;
-shader 2.0
-shader 3.0
-shader 4.0

To take advantage of full graphics details you need to chose shader 4.0(or at least shader 3.0)...but you will have low amont of FPS.You need a powerfull MAC to doo this.

To see grass enable terrain details-this option lower your FPS but good graphics.Also you need to put terrain details view distance at max.

You can enable shadows...shadows will eat lots of FPS too.

To avoid graphics gliches try to change texture quality..but also can eat your FPS...

Here a few example from my MAC PRO with ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB of GDDR5 graphics card.

What video card has your MAC,or specs of your mac please will be more easy to understand.Bald issues are reported by many people...most of them are fault of OpenGL engine and graphics cards,ATi cards had issues around.Can be CPU fault too,if is too weak.
I don't had bald issue ,so i am not very sure how you can fix that.

Found out by mistake by cliking more time because client was launching slow...

Just downloaded and installed the game fine, however, at character creation when selecting the realm choosing Alsius causes the client to crash. Choosing Ignis or Syrtis works fine, but client always crashes when choosing Alsius.

That's weird. The backtrace is from the Launcher, where you can never choose a realm.

So... I don't understand :-/

Sorry Surak, that log I gave you must have been from some other crash when installing. I managed to get the game installed and updated, can launch fine and can create characters in Syritus and Ignis fine as I said in my last post. I can recreate the error every time I try to create an Alsius character just by clicking the Alsius shield on the realm select screen. The game closes immediately and sends me back to the desktop, however, no "report to apple" window comes up or anything. There is also no log created in CrashReporter. Hence my earlier mixup. This is what displays in Console after crash.

Not sure if this helps, but as it's not creating a log I know of, I'm not sure where to look. It is a pretty weird anomaly. I've unistalled, downloaded another client and reinstalled. Crash still happens when choosing Alsius at realm select.

Hello! I have Mac OS X 10.7.1 (lion) Processor 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7; 4 Gb Ram memory; AMD Radeon HD 6750 M video Graphic.
I just installed Regnum on my Mac. At the Ro launcher i get an error that says: Cannot set locale to 'es_AR'. But then i click ok and doesn´t get any serious problem. In the game the mouse scroll function very well with char zoom but does not work with the power bar, i have the multi touch and a normal (windows) mouse; It seems that the problem is with the point to point scroll, when i scroll it pass so fast i can't get the number 2 power bar and instead jumps to the fourth space. I installed windows 7 in my boot camp App and the game and the scroll works very well. But i get better graphics on mac os x and still want to play in mac os x.
I need help, i don't think that the problem eradicates in the mouse, i have 3 and functions well.
No crash at all, the game function tremendous on mac, congrats my 4 years fellows.

It's probably a bug. I'll have a look at it. No promises about dates (sorry). But it should be soon enough.
