just asking why are they different, whats the criteria? I notice this with elite armors too, just curious i guess.

It seems (in a move NGD forgot to put in the changelog) that from now on; all dropped armours have random resists.

oh great...that truly sucks for me then.
whats the point of different armor sets then now?

Resists are random now, but only on items level 50 and over as far as I can tell. Items that our characters might've worn with the old level cap still seem to be affected, however mid-40s and lower drops do not seem to be, with their resists matching those of the storebought armor sets. I think NGD did this purely because you could not buy the new armors at stores, and failed to take into account that the level 50 armors still drop in their criteria.

Actually, it's there in the 1.7.0 changelog:
-Modified: Random protection distribution against different elements. It applies to all armors obtained by looting or lucky boxes.
