I just installed on a new laptop I bought myself, and for the most part I am very happy, however I do have 2 issues that bug me a little.
1: No news in launcher: Not a big issue but, If its something I can fix then it would be appreciated. (just having update info and links/event etc is helpful) right now it simply says [[no_news]]
2: User information isn't saved. always has a blank username.

1. don't know how to fix it
2. You can change it in your RO files. Currently I'm not at home and can't remember what file it is, I will let you know when I'm back

Did you do a fresh install or copy the game folder? I had the same on a win pc when copying over the game folder, the installer makes changes in the registry to save the last user name.

It was a fresh install to win 7. The installer was the latest that was available for download. Things I did try were to reinstall giving it admin privs but that resulted in the same issue. Tried downloading it again in case it was corrupted but still it was the same 2 issues.
I didn't use any of my old config files as I modified my old ones quite a bit and I wanted to have a standard config to start working with again. Checking my other configs I do notice a few files that this install doesn't have, possibly one or more being the cause of my probs..if thats so..why didn't they install correctly?

Under linux, there is file ~/.ngdstudios/rolauncher
in the file:
[User]
user=yourusername
Try to find file or directory with that name somewhere in your user directory on windows, if it is not there, try to create one somewhere maybe in AppData, I don't have windows, can't test.
But issue is that when I delete that file on linux, launcher doesn't create a new one, the issue is not with reading the config when it already exists.

i get no news as well, but ive found a way to get username saved.
log in as usual, then once you get to server selection screen, just click exit, that seemed to save the info to my PC.
hope it works for you too.

This is how I've always done it. Confirming that it works.
It do not work for me. After last patch i deinstalled and removed all folders and files connected with RO from my home folder. After reinstall launcher do not remember user name anymore. It is needed to write it every time i login.
Not so big problem for me but still. I run RO on Debian Squeeze 32bit.

I don't remember name of folder and file, but there should be a .something regnum directory in your /home/${USER}/ :]
Since I removed it, launcher does not remember what the last account I logged in.
For the [news] trouble, I tend to say you should check rights on your OS, it maybe just can't connect to server and retreive news for it. I don't use windows a lot but in the past there was a "per application" network settings.

I think you'll find it here:
~/.ngdstudios/rolauncher
I've never run RO on Windows, but perhaps it would be worth searching local drives for the file rolauncher and having a look to see what each one contains.

Well in windows they use an .Ini file labeled as the same, the issue was this file was not created till (whatever happened or just randomly XD) which should not..err happen.
oddly the file was created on another install, which worked perfectly on another laptop with the same exe for both (flash drive) however the rolauncher ino ended up in the live server folder..whereas on the non functioning install it was absent before finally appearing in the root of the RO folder.
I don't have this issue on an admittedly older install to a debian release on my second laptop that is a dual boot with window 7, though offhand i cant provide any specific details about versions etc as I cant recall. It is frustrating because its 'only' happening on the laptop that cost me a fortune as a gaming laptop XD..with a fresh install of win 7 Enterprise and tried with the bloated version that came with the laptop itself with the same results.

What about adding your username to the folder via properties/secutiry settings and giving it full permissions? Perhaps the RO client thinks it can't write to where it needs to because it's reading them incorrectly.

I can try it soon..at work now..so using my desktop while doing payroll :S fun fun fun.
I am also curious if anyone has any idea yet about the news in panel, where the info may be stored or how the launcher pulls the feed from wherever, and more importantly..why it doesnt work for this laptop install, but worked fine for my other via the exact same exe file. I am thinking it may be due to file permissions as well ..though it is just a guess. Its not a big issue..but id really prefer it to the forum stickies on balance changes and hotfixes..and at a glance events or news, xim bonuses etc..,:S
