Sup, I'm running Linux Mint 13 i686 with the heavily updated Nouveau drivers, Mesa 8.1 and 3.5 Kernel from the Ubuntu "Xorg-Edgers" PPA and while I'm happy to see that Regnum runs at all let alone with everything maxed but the AA and AF settings with Shader Model 2.0 the speed leaves something to be desired since the GPU I'm using is way more grunt then the game requires, an 8800GTS G80 core.
I float between 5~35FPS, is there anything any of you other gearheads can think of that would improve performance? Iirc with the blob I can get into the high 80s consistently with everything maxed including the AA and AF settings on the Shader Model 2 client.

Well... Nouveau speed is still low for playing 3D games... For that only reason i use blob.
Edit numbers:
20-30 FPS in Nouveau on lowest RO settings
30-40 FPS in blob on highest RO settings
over 100 FPS in blob on lowest settings

Maybe cus it's underclocked. Binary driver increases GPU clock when in 3d, nouveau doesn't (yet), or thats what I read. Thats why 3d is slow with nouveau. Plus some other stuff that might be missing and is SW emulated by mesa I guess. On integrated gf 6300 it gives ~0ish FPS in regnum, nvidia driver gives ~20 (both in fixed pipeline). gf9600gt was ~15-20ish in fixed pipeline, 10ish in SM2 with nouveau and ~80ish (in SM4) with nvidia driver. 1280x1024 resolution.
GF9600gt is actually slower with nouveau than gf6300 with nvidia driver!!!
Nouveau is just not ready for all the 3d stuff and I don't think it will ever be close to nvidia driver. The only use for nouveau I see is after nvidia drops support for those GPUs in their driver, then one can be glad nouveau exists ^^.
*the numbers are what i remember from some time ago. I can't test that with those cards on amun and with newer nouveau release because my 2nd motherboard is fried (so it was f*ked PSU after all :(). And since buying new PSU and another MB is waste for such old PC, I am stuck with laptop and intel x3100 which gives like 5-10 in fixed pipeline if lucky (almost the nouveau performance, see how nouveau is doomed? :D). I rememeber when it gave ~20-30 in RO before the UI update, me wants that back please???!!!!

Yeah, I'm wondering about swapping out the 8800 for the HD3650 I've got laying around, the R600 driver should be far more complete since AMD has release pretty much all the docs on the series. It's just that the 8800GTS should be capable far more if you where looking at the blob performance between the 2.
