View Full Version : intel card

I recently bought a laptop with an intel hd 4000 card.
IntelŪ Core™ i7-3612QM 4x 2.10 GHz
I believe the card should easily run RO.
I am using ubuntu 12.04.
While the fps seems ok i have some graphic issues, like textures missing.
Anyone got an idea how I can solve this?

Don't know if this is related to your problem, but:
Linux doesn't come with compressed texture support by default because its patented and illegal to include out of the box.
You may need to install S3 texture support, there's guides on the net for Ubuntu.
NGD should've added an alternative ages ago (such as RGBA4), but they haven't done so despite years of complaining about using this technology...

S3 texture support is installed.
Looks like shaders failing validation, would be great if a dev could fix this :P

Confirming the same issue with intel on board graphics under linux.

After some debugging on IRC we determined the problem is a code error in NGD's shader scripts which fail validation.
Here's hoping Surak will see this thread...

Ah, that's a shame! Also hopeful for a fix then. I did actually set up a windows partition just for Regnum :D.

Thanks.
I hate GLSL sometimes... I can't see the error in the shader sources, I'll have to fetch some intel card and do some experiments -.-

Please do so.
I have Intel i7 with Sandy bridge
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 8.0.4
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
And earlier RO worked fine, now I am forced into safe mode because of extremely low FPS in normal mode.
In the past I used to get ~45 fps in normal mode, now its around ~9-14, and everything is jumping. In safe mode it works okeish, but I miss all the visual feedback , buffs etc.
Surak it's best if you install Debian, since Ubuntu just takes recent mesa from Debian and does rebuild. Then you would have the latest official proper build of drivers.
Actually I can also confirm problems with linking shader, and errors, please check game.log
All problems
Low 9-11 fps in normal mode, graphical artefacts, shader linking error
In safe mode full screen / window mode crashed game very often
Taking screenshot of insulting player not possible, screenshot is black or game crashes
Please surak, get Intel CPU.

would be great to get back fixed pipeline because it was the best for some intel cards

Yes, I am also looking forward to fixing this, and also normal mode which worked fine with 40-45fps.
At least I could see paintings of armors, and animation effects of weapons, etc.. nice stuff... but now everything is ugly in safe mode.
Please fix GLSL, I paid for painting my armor, I want to see it :)

May be an error in Mesa3D's shader compiler, of course. If so, it's present since at least Mesa 8.0.2 (version in ubuntu 12.04) until git as of yesterday.
I'd attach my log file, but it's more or less identical to Awrath's (Edit: apparently I did attach it. The difference is there's a whole lot of warnings about being unable to use an unlinked shader which are symptoms rather than being useful info about the cause)

I have the same problem with Regnum on Acer S3 (i7, Intel 4000, 4GB RAM) it happens under Ubuntu 12.04 (with both stock MESA and MESA 9.0/9.1-GIT from PPAs) and Ubuntu 12.10. Force Safe Mode seems to make things OK but the game is ugly as hell and I don't want to play it like that... Is there a solution?

Oh for frak sake do something! :dumbofme: You have all the data you need! Also I bet that somebody from the devs have Intel 3000/4000 GPU integrated in their CPUs but they are too lazy to get up and turn it on! :gun_bandana: I would love to play this game, but with all this sh!t going on I just can't! :dumbofme:

I can conform that I have the same problem.
- latest version ubuntu
- intel card
Problems:
- FPS in normal mode is unplayable
- Character model glitched out: http://nl.picturepush.com/public/12483734
- Game crashes from time to time (does not happen in safe mode)
In safe mode everything is OK, I managed to change the graphics so that It looks quite nice. Turned the effects back on ect.
Hopefully they come up with a fix to this problem soon!
untill then I'll bump this threat every week or so. :ranting:

Use safe mode!
Turn on the game > Log in > don't go to the character select screen! but press 'Options' in the top > advanced > force safe mode.
Make sure you + the graphics up when you go ingame for the best experience!(options > graphics > advanced)
The last step is also VERY important, join Alsius:angel1: (hehe)

You said in your last post that you weren't able to play this game, and because of the amount of smileys you used I assumed you were a ten year old who wasn't aware of the safe mode.
Who cares about the graphics being worse? you can play the game and that's all you can have for now. Until the real ''fix'' is here.
and besides that, I was trying to fucking help you. No need to come up with an overused meme like that.
gosh I hate people like you.

And I hate people who can't read the whole thread before writing (e.g. I hate people like you).
Also, this game pretty much sucks on its own when you are not max lvl and playing with safe mode makes it even worse...

Hey surak! I don't know if it's because I'm on an older intel card, but I still have some errors on this.
The characters appear fine in the character selection screen, but once I login my fps is pretty low and it looks quite strange!
Here are the relevant logs and a screenshot:

That's weird. Are you sure you have the latest drivers? What distro/version are you using?

Hey, thanks for the response. Using Arch linux.
Drivers:
mesa 9.1.1
xf86-video-intel 2.21.5
libtxc_dxtn 1.0.1
I've also tried exa, uxa graphics acceleration, as I thought maybe using sna was the issue, but it's the same on all!
If it helps also, here is the output of glxinfo (http://pastebin.com/JcegCnBz) on my system.

These are only about the 2D acceleration method for Xorg so they shouldn't affect the OpenGL performance anyways.
