Pick a realm, then pick a race that can become a mage. Certain races in each realm can't be a particular race. Once you reach lvl10 as a mage you can further specialise your class into becoming a conjurer or a warlock.

Since Amade replied so precisely, why do you guys have to (1) repeat (2) give approbation(?). Enough with the spam already it has become a sore. And I'm replying for ALL useless replies in ALL threads of ALL forums; this isn't specific to this thread but it's really a pain.

Instead of repeating what I already said you guys could perhaps give more enlightenment in other areas I haven't touched, e.g. pros and cons of being a mage/conju/warlock or which race(s) have good stats for being mages... All the stuff which I am too lazy or not properly informed enough to say here :P

nah, offensive warriors (barbarians) die fast too cause everyone targets them, if you let them get to you, you're dead. Offensive mages (warlocks) will usually take a lot of people down before they die.
It's all KINDA balanced though - defensive warriors (knights) are always the last ones to die in a fight cause of their immense defence and hit points, but they dont deal that much damage, and defensive mages (conjurers) are usually protected because they can heal and resurrect people.
