I don't want to be unsociable, but does anyone know of any other fairly good MMORPGs which are centered either on roleplay or on realm v realm and which are for free?

I also am interested in other MMORPGs to try out, but only for the Linux platform. The only other one I know of is Planeshit. Er, I mean Planeshift. But it is horrible compared to Regnum, and stuck in a perpetual state of "pre-alpha" condition. Magic is mostly non-functional, buggy and underpowered, the game is 10x more laggy than Regnum, the land is practically devoid of life in most areas, etc.

I have been playing Regnum less and less over the last few weeks. The last three times I logged in, the spell lag was unplayable. I tried a fort war, but it took 15 seconds to cast each spell, and half the time by the time the spell finished, the enemy was out of range, behind me, dead, or I was knocked down or otherwise incapacitated. With lag that bad, it makes it very difficult, especially for mages (who depend solely on their spells) and warriors (who find it very difficult to hit someone when lagged so badly).

The two previous times I tried playing, there were no fort wars going on at all, just random hunting. I think this is due to a number of problems:

Guards are bugged, especially castle guards.

Fort doors are bugged

Lag, which is normally bad, is very much worse in large battles

As many agree, hunters are now overpowered and nearly unkillable. Also they seem less affected by the lag, since their power depends less on spells because their pets + normal attacks are quite effective. I believe this encourages more and more people to hunt rather than fort wars.

Some people crash constantly, like Byteme said in the original post.

The lag seems to start getting bad when more than about 600 people are online. Today there were around 750, and fort wars were unplayable. I hope this improves soon.
