Acrobatic or Strategic Position?
Which gives you the most damage reduction?
Strategic position increases your armour by 80%, Acrobatic lowers damage done to you by 30%. Thanks.

Depends on the damage.
I think Acrobatics is best for every direct damage, while Strategic Position is best for DoT spells. Atleast that's what I have experienced with my barb using Frenzy (20% physical damage reduction) and Caution (+80% armor)

Strategic position will be most useful against low damage, damage over time and damage types you have good or very good armour against.
Acrobatic will most likely reduce more damage from barbarians and other marksmen. Both are very good and the combination is awesome if you have enough points for that. |

Hmm, thanks. So is armour not incredibly important? I mean, here is a spell that near doubles your armour value and yet it doesn't reduce damage by over 30%?
Edit: Also strategic is much more of a mana cost.

Armour reduce a fixed value
Say your armour absorb 100 dmg from my 800 dmg hit thats 700 dmg With strategic it absorb 180 dmg thats 620 dmg But with acrobatic its -30% and the regular 100 so it only about 460 dmg left. Say you are hit with lightning 250 dmg -100 = 150 dmg / tick with strategic 250-180 = 70 dmg with acrobatic (250-100) -30% = 105 dmg something like that |

yup
That´s what i do :P
Although you still get pwned by ethereal arrow, tear apart, break apart, vamp, soulkeeper, thirst of blood, mind squash and armor reducing debuffs. Having all those skills at lvl 4 works swell, and using strategic position and evasive tactics in lvl 1 or 2 also improves your defenses. Acrobatic on the other hand has to be at least at lvl 4 or else the duration will render the skill pretty much useless. Now think about this: imagine all those 3 skills maxed and add other skills like heroic presence (+100% protection, wich added to strategic position and evasive tactics gets you a nasty +255% armor, reaching over 2k armor points with a lvl 50 set, and you can still add friendly shielding... oh boy) or material wall + magic barrier (30% resistance aganist phisical and magical damage, totaling, yeah, another acrobatic, on top of your own.) and you get that wich dm is talking about, and that goes without mentioning spell elude, dodge and cat reflexes, or even sow. However, even if you manage to get all that stuff, you STILL get pwned by ethereal arrow, tear apart, break apart, vamp, soulkeeper, thirst of blood, mind squash and armor reducing debuffs. It may be awesome (so... damn awesome) but it has it´s counters. You can also push the odds in your favor by getting spell elude, dodge or cat reflexes, or even all of them and then just hope to resist that wich can get you killed. Also, as uber as this can be it requires: - mana (not all that important, unless you go in a hunt. If your problem is mana, dump spell elude) - casting time (oh well just get a fast bow) - crapload of points wich result in an uber defense but a poor attack/range/speed or just about everything else you will want to spend your points in. Now go try out some of that stuff |

most marks i see use both of them. They complete each other as it was explained already
so the real question is: Is it worth using strategic position on lvl5 or is lvl1 enough (+50% armor)? |

I thought lvl 1 was +40% armour.
Either way they're good against most DoT attacks, but don't do that much against big hits. |
