BK1: The 35 Nights

Ok since im utterly bored, I figured I would go back to writing in Regnum, so thus I present what will be my first short story: "The 35 Nights"

CHAPTER ONE: ~ The Bloodstained Sky

"He awoke to the sound of thunder. Looking up towards the sky, he knew he had to start moving. The young man packed up his equipment, slung the rucksack over his shoulder, and started to walk through the rumbling night.

He did not know where he was going, he seemed to follow the wind. The traveller would walk for hours, taking short breaks along the way. Never truly knowing, never knowing his destiny, never knowing the role he would play.

This is the story of his journeys, what he saw along the way, the way his world was percieved, this is his story, my story..."

The rain, the blessed rain. I dropped my bag and fell on my knees to the cold dirt before me. It had been so long since I felt rain, did it have any signifigance? I looked down into a building puddle of water under me, and started at the man who looked back at me. It dawned upon me when was the last time I saw my own reflection. My face was battered and war torn. Two green eyes stared at me, a deep gash like scar under the right one. Long brown hair, streaming down my face upon my shoulders.

I could not help but smile slightly looking at myself. I lay on the dirt for yet another moment, pondering on old memories. I was not scared of what was going on now, I did not fear death. I looked over to the horizon, the sun was setting and soon nightfall would follow it, bringing eternal darkness over the land. At last I sat up, grabbed my bag and once again set off into the night.

Now I was running, following the trail of the wind, wherever the wind went I followed it. I yearned for that wind, the cool breeze of the day. In a way, I developed a friendship with the wind. It was all I had left. Climbing the rocky landscape I wondered how much farther my destination was. I reached a small enclove near the summit of the mountain, and then the wind died.

Suddenly I felt a jolt into my back, the terrible pain seared through my body, my eyes rolling I fell to the ground, collapsed like a marionette without its strings. "What have I found today" whispered a cold voice. I tried to lift myself to my feet with the energy I had left, but I could not accomplish this task, I was immobilized.

In the corner of my eye I saw the faint image of my attacker, a dark elf moving closer and closer to me. His red eyes and windswept white hair swaying rythm like, scanning every portion of my body. I felt his smooth hands touch my flesh, he tied my hands behind me and dragged me up against a rock.

Now I lay face to face with him, I noted that this dark elf had a darker skin tone than other dark elfs. He had a blunt, bony face. And again he spoke to me. "Where are you running to?" "TRAITOR!" I shouted at him, and I spat in his face. He raised his fist with incredible speed and slammed it against my nose. I could taste the trickle of blood making its way down my wet face.

"I do not take kindly to humans like you! You should consider yourself lucky to be alive!" He yelled. All I could do was sit here motionless and watch this elf torture me to death. "I will ask you again! Where are you headed?" I gathered my energy and shouted back at him, "I will not fall as yet another victim to the crumbling government of Ignis!"

"Silence!" He hissed at me. "Ignis was doomed since the start of the war campaign at least nearly 20 years ago! We are the new rule! We will weed out the fools like yourself who dare to oppose the Ignean Civil War!"

"You are the fool to betray your own people, you call yourselves the guards of the people, but all you do is slay your innocent people who still grasp hope." I said. And then I heard a blade being drawn from its sheath. He put it up against my neck, I could feel the metal skin up against my own.

Uh thanks I guess, I don't really find interest in it, im just writing it because everyone is telling me I should continute to develop my narative skills.

Wow Edge, I can't remember the last thing I read of yours. . . But it was a few months ago, and I can see your writing developing. The detail you've put into first person is great. Keep "developing your narrative skills" on us, it gives us great entertainment!
