Here is my modest proposal

Background

I've just started playing ROL, but in prevoius MMO's I've played, I've found the gaming wikis at Wikia to be a great help. They are an excellent place to collect and polish game information (and have robust search functions). ROL didn't have one, so I've started one here:

Regnum Online Wiki

Wikis are websites that anyone can edit and modify (the main example is Wikipedia -- Wikia.com is Wikipedia's for-profit arm). There is a help page on editing wikis here.

To get an idea what wikis for other MMO's look like, please see this portal, and scroll down to the bottom, where the actual wikis are listed.

Wiki Administrators

At Wikia, each wiki has administrators that can do things like delete pages, ban troublesome users, create new administrators and so on.

I am automatically the first administrator, but if the established members of the ROL community are interested, I would like to pass administration off to a "Founding Administrator" who could guide the wiki, and in turn create the other admins. Advice for starting admins can be found here.

Would the community like to nominate someone, or would someone like to volunteer? (Or is the community interested in a wiki at all?)

Congrats for your great idea.
Some months ago I started a similar proyect (in spanish), hosted at Wikidot, called Regnumpedia. Due to lack of time and support, I had to close the site recently.

I will have an eye on Regnum Online at Wikia, and if posible, I'll contribute with some articles.

Just an update on the Regnum Online Wiki.

We have the basic layout of the wiki setup, and have been filling in the articles on the different parts of the games (realms, races, the War Zone etc.).

The wiki has been operational for only two days, but already it comes up in the first page of Google English-language search (#10). Due to way Google's algorithm works, the Regnum Online Wiki will probably be the top-ranked fansite on the game (just behind sites like YouTube, Wikipedia and mmorpg.com). The same thing happens for the big mass market MMORPG's like WoW and GW and their Wikia sites.

As always, we invite the wisest RO players to fill in the gaps with their knowledge. Editing a wiki is as simple as clicking a button; and you can contribute by correcting a spelling a mistake or creating an entire article on a topic.

This is beyond great as an idea. I'm gonna help as much as I can in my free time.

One request: Please, people, keep the article info correct and consistent. This passage:

PvP combat involving only 2 players of opposing realms are rare, although some realms like to host PvP events. In these events, nobody is allowed to interfere with any PvP. To challenge someone of an enemy realm to a PvP, you must walk in front of them and perform the 'Challenge' action in the window brought up by pressing N. The enemy player excepts by performing a reverence. The two players then put around 40 - 50 meters between them and the fight begins.

Is completely wrong. This is something the players have agreed upon, and definitely not all have agreed on the same rules, or even the legitimacy of a pre-arranged 1v1. It either should be clearly stated this is a common used player convention or deleted altogether. It is NOT something that is supported by game-mechanics and should not be stated as such.

The articles for the other classes have similar biased statements as well. For example, the Barbarian article says they have a very hard time against Warlocks, or have to use Slow/Very slow weapons.

Both points are not true - Warlocks are easy easy kills with Madness and Barbarians can use Medium weapons such as Dai katanas and Elven swords (plus Thirst for blood which increases attack speed).

Whoever is writing this stuff needs to take more care to get their facts straight beforehand.

I personally have a far easier time with barbarians than knights.

EDIT: Wtf, did someone just delete the whole barbarian article? I can't see anything and it doesn't show who did the last edit either. Thank god for the Undo option.

If I get time I'm removing all the "things to consider" from every class. I went through all of them and they are inaccurate, to put it politely. I might replace them with a 'pros & cons' section or smth.
