Do debuffs give xp?
I use a ninja hunter setup in the wz, but use pets to level. However, I am getting tired of respecing to pets, and want to try and use the ninja way to level.
Without the pet though, the hunter's damage is diminished, and I am worried this will reduce the xp I get. I don't have many points in bows, opting instead for high tricks, evades and scouting. Is xp awarded for the debuffs I might use such as Ambush or Ensaring Arrow? Or is it pointless to try and level as a ninja?

Ambush will get you a certain amount of xp on its own depending on its lvl, the same with all non-damaging spells. Non damaging spells are worth a certain amount of xp depending on its lvl:
Level 1: 100 2: 250 3: 500 4: 750 5: 1000 However, as Ensnaring arrow does damage, even if you use it on lvl 5 you won't get 1000 dmg worth of xp unless you actually do 1000 dmg. If you do 500 dmg with it, you'll get 500 dmg worth xp. Despite this, lvling with a ninja setup is rather slow and pets can come in useful in the wz. |

Thanks for the info. So each debuff gets a "damage equivalent" based on level.
What would happen in the case of a successful debuff that actually has no effect on a mob? For example, successfully casting Confuse on a daggerfang. The daggerfang has no non-damage spells that can be blocked, so the debuff is essentially useless. But would you still get the xp because it was successfully cast?

using high level of tricks in a ninja style set-up for leveling is not that great. it is slow, very slow. If you used a ninja style set-up which is higher in bow spells, for instance short bows, it goes alot faster for leveling. When I was leveling, and decided on a ninja style set-up, it always included repetition shot, for catching mobs in small groups, of course using this style of set-up for leveling requires you to have a high enough level to max the short bow discipline. Otherwise, you are best off with a pet. I don't recommend ninja style set-ups for hunters that are lower than 46^ ........ but that's just my opinion.

At lvl 43, given the large amounts of xp now needed to level anyways, if it is even slower ninja-style, so what. I'm just glad you can get a modest amount of xp through tricks .
