What's Invasion?

I'm new here and all,and have a noobie question. Whats invasion update and what is the feature basically about?

You have to take over the enemy forts and destroy their Realm Gate. Then, you must spread the terror, cause havoc, rape the NPC's and eat their babies.

...But the main goal is to steal two gemstones from the altars and retrieve them to your realm. Once you have the six gems you can open up a big portal that takes you to a hidden place where a dragon appears and some interesting stuff (that I haven't witnessed) happens.
