Default What do you think about /reset_powers ?

Hello,

I don't understand the roleplay purpose of this feature. Players doing mostly PvP seem to reset so often to suit a situation that it is ridiculous. Your character learned some skills and spells and changing them at will it totally unrealistic: you chose a path of learning and a style for your character, so stick with it or create another character. Nobody can 'unlearn' something to learn something else instead.

IMHO the only purpose of /reset_powers should be undoing a choice you make when you gain a level and train prior to a final validation of overall changes i.e if you make a mistake or change your mind about further development of the character when allocating your additional skill points.

So what is your opinion about this feature ?

This is one of the things that makes Regnum Online unique. People can test different builds and find out what suits them best, one mistake doesn't screw up your complete character etc. I think it's fine the way it is now.

Exactly. If you don't like it look for another game, but don't make us waste time with this things.

It's like complaining about that taking and recovering of forts endleslly is "unrealistic" and there is no real damage to the forts...

Wow has an unlarn talents feature too. Go complain to Blizzard, I'll leave the adress later if you want.

Sorry but I still see that as a PvP optimizing game cheat for long time players rather than a help for newbies (as i am since I started to play one month ago even if my main character has recently reached level 36).

A few web sites can tell you about your further choices through an online trainer. So you can simulate level advancement and then apply it back to your character in game. Rebuilding on and on a character up from the base dont give her neither a style nor a history with forces and weaknesses. Am I so wrong about RO ?

If you think I am wrong tell me why this feature is so important to you ?

Edit: I am talking about the impact of this feature on role playing and personality of the character, not about intrinsic 'realism' of a fantasy background. It is not MMO Street Fighter but MMO Role Playing Game.

I always find it funny when someone says 'unrealistic' when he plays a game where there are elves, dwarves and uthgars and lots of magic , but that is beside the point I know.

Regnum would lose a LOT of its appeal without the ability to reset the powers. While I agree that it is maybe a bit too easy to do it is one of the few things that keep the game interesting once you hit the big grinding levels where it is fun to try different setups and whether these will be better for grinding or not.
At the same time these setups are hardly good enough for any warzone action so to be useful in the warzone you need to reskill.

Without resetting powers I am sure a lot of people would get so frustrated that they would leave the game. It is a tool that fits the dynamics of the game way too much to be taken away completely.

I agree that sometimes people seem to overuse this feature. To explain a little, this command comes from the beta days when spells where changing a lot and NGD needs for their betatesters (the users then) to try a lot of things.

Removing this command it is not the solution. Lets see the Summon discipline for example. No one would use it until the Zarkit is avialable, it would not pay invest points in the Mummy or the Lich, knowing that the last summon is far better.

Maybe the solution that fits Regnum better is to limit this feature. A good way would be that relearn cost Gold (it should be able to pay it by Ximerin also). I also would like that a "free" reset powers is given every level or every two levels.
But for that to be done the training system needs some fixes. For example, reach one of the last stage of balance, complete some descriptions for spells, changing the trainer so it is easier to undo a mistake, etc.

I agree with you. I said previously an 'undo' feature would be welcome.

In my opinion one of the best "features" in this game is the ability to change around your skills. I could understand if NGD decided to restrict the usage of it. But not remove it completely. Putting 30+ hours into a character only to realize you want to go another route and can't unless you restart SUCKS!

Rezekstanian, Regnum is probably not the game for you if you're that concerned about your character's roleplay or personality. I understand where you're coming from, since I've played games that encourage character development and story, but when people talk about RP around here, they mean "Regnum Points", not "Role Playing." Both kinds of games are fun, but they each fill a different niche. That doesn't stop you from roleplaying your character, of course, but I think you'll end up feeling out of place.

Also, an online trainer can't cover everything since a setup that looks great on paper can be terrible in practice. I think the freedom to experiment until you find something that works for your style is one of the great things about this game.

I agree with most of the posters above. /reset_powers is one of my favorite features. I generally create a build and stick with it through most of a level now, but love having the option to re-invent my char whenever I feel like it. It's easy to choose spells that look good, but turn out to do something unexpected, or not really work at all.

Look up EL. Lot more roll play and characters pay a pretty heavy price for change.

Being able to swap from a grinding build to one of several hunt/war builds takes a lot of the drudgery out. If /reset_powers disappeared so would I, and probably a lot of others too...

P.S. Keep in mind that at 50, you don't get full skill trees. I think you can max 3 or something to that effect... Plenty of room for variety.
