Marksman and areas

Are there any areas that are actually useful in RvR? Ignus Scorch and Needle Blast doesn't have range. Fire Rain does too little damage and has area only 6. Lightning Arrow has huge mana cost and for Projectile Rain you need lvl 19 Long bows.

I thought marks can farm rps with areas but it doesn't seem very likely... (not that the only thing I want to do is to spam areas)

Heh it has been a while since I saw someone refer to needle blast in a context other than "completely useless spells" or as a joke

The only area I use is Lightning Arrow, many marksmen use(d) Ignus Scorch as well. Before the patch Ignus was too good to miss for RP farming. It did not do much damage but it got you enough dmg/target on a lot of targets so that you would get 1-2 rp for each one of them, people used it to farm rp's that way in fort doors etc. It still kinda works that way but not as effectively, with the added casting time and longer cooldown.

Lightning arrow is great to use if you time it right - Just before the opposing group charges to slow them down or when they turn around to run away (either to their own realm or inside a fort or whatever) to pick some of the ones that are left back due to the slow effect. It's also nice to fire before your group charges, slowing the enemy down when 2 opposing groups "merge" to fight each other gives your group advantage as you mess with their footwork. Big downside: Be prepared to see 9/10 targets block your LA because of the great knight auras

Personally - I don't bother with Ignus, I use Lightning Arrow on 5. Ignus has it's uses on lvl1, which you will eventually find out yourself, so I keep it on some hotbar. All the other areas I just don't use

I only use Ignus Scorch on lvl 5. It's still better than a Warlock's Crystal Blast, even though it deals a little less damage. I used to have Lightning Arrow on lvl 5, but I removed it after the damage from it got reduced. About 300 damage on each target for a 500 mana, 3 min cooldown spell is not enough, IMO. The slowdown effect is pretty good though, so I won't call this spell useless, it's just that I don't use it anymore.

I've always thought that if you want areas.. Play a Warlock.

Yes, Marks do have areas.. But good areas? Well...

I'd say the only worth while area is Lightning Arrow, but as Nikor said, it's still not great.

Mark are faaaaaaaaaaaaaar more effective at just being single target killing machines.
