Technology Update Glimpse 1: Draw Distance

Hello,

As the technology update gets closer to start beta phase we will try to show some of the progress.

One of the major rewrites is the Terrain rendering system.
Our previous system was designed for pre-shader hardware so it was too ineficient for current generation graphic cards.

The new rendering technique uses clipmaps this implies the following

Better performance (less draw calls and better LOD)
less loading time (those small hickups when you move from one terrain area to another one)

AND

a much improved draw distance

I just hope it wont eat every last byte of RAM up.

That looks wonderful Chilko. Could you take the trouble and post it in the spanish forum? You know, we are also interested in this things and knowing what is happening with the game, and that the new engine is close...
