Hughe performance differences on different resolution

I just was testing with several resolutions in windowed mode. I discovered that 1024*768 in windowed mode gives about +50% FPS compared to 1280*1024 in windowed mode.
That seems a very big difference to me. I never saw such a big difference in another game so far.
1280*1024 in windowed mode with disabled window decoration gives me ~30 FPS on max settings which seems a bit low to me. Changing from highest to medium (including AA and Anisotropic filter) brings like +5 fps only.

System
Ubuntu Karmic 64 Bit
AMD Athlon II X3 435 (2,9ghz)
4 GB Ram
Nvidia GTS 250 (195.36.15)

Can somebody confirm or prove me wrong? It seems a bit odd to me.

You should not be getting that low of FPS with your setup. I'm running everything maxed out (4x Anisotropic, 2x AA) on the following...

Arch Linux 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X3 2.8GHz
4GB DDR2
Geforce 9600GT 1GB

... and I get 60+ FPS at 1680x1050. I recently bumped it down to 1440x900 (windowed mode) and get 80FPS as long as I'm not at a fort.

Well... It's strange.
My current situation is like this:
The desktop resolution is 1280*1024. I want to play Regnum in1280*1024 in windowed mode because I can't switch to the other workspaces then. I told compiz to disable windowdecorations for Regnum. That works fine so far.
I found out that shadows draw the big part of the performance in that resolution. If I disable them I almost have the same performance as in 1024*768 with shadows. It's around 50 FPS now when moving in a small group.
But like every second start I just get a black screen. Just the interface elements are rendered.

Yep, that looks like a pretty good amount of FPS for the system he posted.
It would be interesting to see the FPS of my system on windows but I am rather thankful that there is a linux client

The 9500 makes a big difference. It is about half as powerful as the 9600. It seems to be a decent card, but not ideal for high end gaming.

Hi

Did you try several resolutions changing them ingame or using the launcher? I've seen some FPS loss if its the first case, maybe there is some bug around switching resolutions on the fly.

Just a little observation I came across that may help on a temporary basis. I recently disabled shadows and my FPS went from 50-60 all the way up to 90-110.

I changed them on the launcher. If I change them ingame the game will just come up with a black screen. Only interface elements are shown then like the spell bar, inventory etc. The rest is absolutely black then. Sometimes I get that on a normal startup too. As I already wrote before with disabled shadows it's way better... 50-60 FPS when no one or just a few are around. In bigger war it goes down to 18.
