Horus Story pulled from my personal archives. (VERY OLD).
Vythica returned from the night's invasion with a strange feeling about her. For the first time in her life, she had not fallen in battle. Usually she returned grumbling about something, “damned warlock” this or “stupid rock” that, but tonight was different. She held her head high in self-righteousness. She knew that she wasn't as strong or as battle-hardened as some of the others, but she had an intrinsic feeling that she was better somehow. Smarter, faster, more cunning. She knew it, felt it, believed it. This, of course, led to frequent disagreements with other Igneans. This night would not deviate from the status quo in that respect.
Upon returning to Ignis, she was instructed by her Revenant to go seek out the Realm Gem in the hot, sulfurous, and dangerous Volcanic Zone. The Volcanic Zone made Vythica tremble slightly. Not because of the noxious fumes that permeated it, or the lava flows that slowly sliced through it, circulating the lifeblood of Ignis herself. There was another reason for Vythica to tremble. A more terrible and nefarious one; the dragon Tenax. Vythica had heard stories of bravest of Igneans meeting their end at Tenax's feet. The bravest or the most foolish, she couldn't decide which. Not wanting to appear to be cowardly, she bravely rushed ahead of the others, half acknowledging, half ignoring her Revenant's warnings. To her surprise when Vythica arrived at the Realm Gem, she found that she was not the only one seeking to place it in the Realm's portal... Hathor. Vythica knew Hathor and knew that if there were an Ignean more self-righteous than herself, then he was it. She approached the gem slowly. Hathor stood there looking as disgruntled as ever. She could smell the previous night's conquest on him. He reeked of booze and sex. She wondered to herself how many young, male travelers he had seduced from Nasraah Tej to his bedchamber the night before. She knew his secret, but would not share it. She derived personal pleasure from Hathor knowing that she knew but never fully acknowledging it. In the interest of cordiality and a twisted arrogance Vythica politely bowed and greeted Hathor, who gruffly returned the greeting. She giggled to herself knowing his “gruffness” was nothing more than a facade. After standing there quietly for sometime Vythica suggested that Hathor go recover the other Realm Gem from the Beaches of Meleketi. Hathor, right on cue replied “ you go”. She hadn't really expected him to do it, but she had to at least try to avoid making him look foolish again. He had no idea. That gem was hers. She had earned it... The Heretics had come to Ignis with numbers never before witnessed by Vythica. They had advanced unchecked into the homeland, quickly laying waste to Samal fort and the “Jewel of the Desert” Shanaarid Castle. They mounted an unprecedented assault on the Great Wall and were quickly in possession of the precious Realm Gems. After a superbly executed counter attack the beautiful scarlet Gem was returned to it's place by Trix. Ignis had been shaken by this and vowed revenge. While planning on the best course of action to undertake Vythica was charged with guarding the scarlet stone. She had barely taken her place to stand watch when a mighty dwarf hunter from the frozen land of Alsius broke from his hiding place and quickly snatched the gem. Vythica was mortified. She had been given one task and to fail at that task would be to fail Ignis. She had to get that gem back. Fortunately for her, the dwarf was unfamiliar with her land and could not find the way out. She brutally assaulted him with fierce attacks from her swift bow. He mumbled something in his Dwarven language with his last breath and fell. Silent. There was no way Vythica was going to let Hathor place that gem. She had been through too much to ensure its security. The other gems were being placed in the portal and she could sense Hathor's eagerness to grab the gem. What he didn't count on was the bond that binds all members of the Company together. Vythica felt Ditzey place the final Alsius gem, and in a single fluid motion removed the gem from the pedestal and headed to the portal. Hathor turned and headed towards the Desert Door, presumably to Nasraah Tej to find tonight's conquest. Authors Note: This is mostly a true story. These events actually took place, I've just taken some liberties with them.
